DEPENDENCE - a Matthew Bennett film

It sounds like over-all it went great. We had planes flying overhead on our shoot and it must of interrupted half our takes, but you make the most of what you've got.

I loved your film in FictionFest and can't wait to see this. Best of luck with the post-production.

I really like this script Matt is producing. If it comes across it will be great.

Ah well Matt you learn through doing - I shot on the first day with Matt, after five minutes (or so) my comment was around "when you came here on your scout you did hear all this noise right?" - and of course he checked sound, but unfortunately they day he was there the trucks weren't going up and down the road.

Good luck Matt, get it done.

Same here. We shot in a basement boiler room. The heat pump kicked in randomly for a few seconds or a few minutes... maddening. BUT, the location was just sooo cool to look at that it was worth it.

Immediate Review: Wow. This was incredible! What a way to start off the fest for me! This was the first one I watched, and I gotta say I was very impressed with this. I know you were talking about having issues with the sound, but I wouldn't have known had you not shared that. I only heard one or two minor audio clicks (like it was cutting in/out) during the part with the main character and the little girl, but that was very minimal. I did NOT see that ending coming. Bravo on that. I should expect this to have very high marks. I thought the cinematography was top notch too! The only angle that threw me off was when the main character first sat down with the little girl. I thought he was at the foot of the bed, and it messed up my perspective to see him elsewhere. I was curious as to why a father was living the life he was, trying to care for his daughter in the manner that he was, but I also thought it was sweet of him to fight with everything he had for her. The last line she asks him with the shot of the tombstones put it over the top for me. Great, great job, sir!

Thanks Hawk. It's morning here in Australia, so this was a very nice comment to wake up to.

I have a soft spot for this one. Well executed. Fight scene comes off a little staged and by little I mean wee.

(I can't get the spoiler thing to work so spoiler below, highlight the text to read it)
Poetic last half turned child abduction. Nice. You fooled me.
Really solid Matt, and i loved the ending, great twist. I am digging the lightning in the girl's room, the train location, the overall cinematography and the acting. I think you should have a sound designer add punch and kick sounds to the fight scene though, it would add a ton more impact. But that's an easy fix, other than that it was a good short film. Congrats.

This was a really good film. The fight scene was a tad staged and you definitely need some better sound effects for it, but with a little tweaking it'll work great. Everything else was spot on. Good story and excellent acting. I really liked the lighting of the interior as well. Good job.

Good film! Looked beautiful, well shot and the pace was spot-on for my taste. Mark did a great job on the score too. I'm going to go against the grain here a little....as nice as the lighting was in the shack, I think it was a little too nice with the beautiful reds & blues. It pulled me out of the story a bit as I found myself admiring how well done it was. A shack like that, powered by a single battery would have probably been darker with more shadows...yes? I wanted to see it a little dirtier...

Everything else worked nicely...and you did a great job on the sound if it was as bad as you originally said.
Congrats to the cast & crew on a job well done!

The streaming version isnt playing sound for me. I'll try to get the download and then come back to this. Visuals look good, but I want the sound :)

Good job! The end really caught me, I liked it :) I thought the fight was a little off, mainly due to sound effects. Which I assume was due to time constraints? The editing also felt a little jumpy on that scene, not sure if it's just me. Acting was solid! I was smiling throughout the whole man and girl scene, lovely stuff :)

I love the shot at :28, with that huge structure in the background. almost looks futuristic. what is that?

also, i know you had a gravel noise issues with the fight so i just wanted to say, even though i think you should add punch/hit sounds, the rest of the foley during that scene was well pulled off.

I litterally said...ok where is the villlain in this till the last 15 seconds...I was like..."hmm...ok...bad guy then"

So your evil plan worked to get me to like this guy and left me unsure like Zaza on the night he lost his virginity :D

But I loved it sir great job!
