C100: decent slider for C100?

Good feedback Michael, I too have been trying to decide between the Second Shooter and the RRM OMC Director. I am definitely locked in now on the Kesseler. I have a new corporate client who wants to shoot a lot of interviews and having this for b-cam will add value to our services. Not going to pull the trigger just yet but will probably see if there are any Black Friday deals out there for it.

Your friend's photos are exquisite although a tiny bit too Photoshopped for my taste. She is very talented, I just prefer a less post processed look on stills but her work has a very commercially appealing look, great for editorial.

Well, I'm not really a professional like you Puredrifting..... but damn I love this thing. It's just a matter of getting to know it. But just be warned not to tilt up without one hand ready to catch it.... ha ha! I ended up taking the Ninja blade off the C100 and got a longer HDMI cable and used the Blade independently of the C100, so that took some weight off the top. The blade with two batteries is quite heavy.

I looked into The Red Rock "One man Crew" but it was actually more expensive and only does one thing. The Kessler is cheaper and does 3 Axis..... and is very intuitive even I could figure it out within about 5 minutes.

As you guys probably know by now I'm a guitar maker, but I want to film a documentary on my craft. The Kessler is great because I can film myself as if there were another person operating the camera with the movement programed into it. Puredrifting, I would defiantly get the Kessler over the Red Rock, One Man Crew, but it seems like you are already there.

The cineslider can be used on a single tripod if you have a hard flat mount. I use mine with a 100mm bowl and a Kessler quick release plate and it doesn't flex. It also want fall over if you have a heavy tripod like the Kessler k-pod. Or you can just throw some sandbags on your normal tripod. I've found that it is important to keep the center of weight in the middle of the slider in order to get the smoothest moves, which often means taking any extra weight off of the top of the C100 and mounting it at the base or off the camera when doing tilts.

I just learned to position the tripod legs to the maximum benefit, similar to a boom pole, one leg in the direction of the boom = to one tripod leg in the direction of the end of the slider. Today I used the tripod along with a light stand that screwed into one end of the slider...... that seemed to solve the problem. I think Kessler sells legs for table top use, but there website is not very user friendly when it comes to finding accessories for their products, or I'm an idiot...... probably the later.

However, the Shark's CF rails are wider than the Kessler, and my C100 with the Ninja Blade is some what top heavy especially if you factor in the pan and tilt head on which sits the C100. Yesterday I was shooting some footage of my shop..... panned the camera up which threw the weight to the back causing the whole thing to tip over...... I broke both HDMI cable inserts but fortunately caught the thing before it hit the ground. I my opinion the rails on this are too close together to spread the balance out well. The issue isn't the weight which I believe this thing is rated for 20 pounds and under, the problem is the balance. The first day I used it only on sliding back and forth and had a Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS USM II which weighs over 2 pounds and the tilt worked fine but I didn't tilt it back much.

So, just a word of warning these things really need to be balanced with two support systems, It doesn't really work well on the tripod alone (I don't think any 3 foot slider would) but it really doesn't work as a table top either, in fact it's much worse used like that with a C100. With the Shark used in the table top configuration it seems much more stable. That said, I love the Kessler and don't know how I ever lived without it.

Glad to hear you are liking the Second Shooter! Just wanted to chime in on a couple of the slider comments/feedback you had. I believe you have the Stealth slider. which yes is narrow, as it is mean to have a smaller form factor. The weight capacity for the slider is 15 lbs, and the capacity for the Second Shooter is 10 lbs. If you are wanting more support for table top use, we do have out Outrigger Feet, I recommend our All-Terrain Outrigger Feet (http://store.kesslercrane.com/all-terrain-outrigger-feet-cs1020.html), as they give a nice wide foot print and allow for more adjustability. As someone mentioned, we did show our weighted flywheel at NAB. It is currently in production, so we are trying to have it available before the end of the year. I think you will like the feel it gives the slider with a manual move.

I'll let you get back to your discussion here, I just happened to come across the discussion and wanted to give you some info.

Thanks!
Chris

Thanks Chris for the link. I saw those outrigger feet on the other sliders, but wasn't sure if they could fit on the Stealth slider or not..... Just ordered two batteries from you guys today, looks like tomorrow I'll have to get those feet. I was gonna try and rig up something myself to expand the base, but seeing you sell them there is no need. I've visited Kessler's website a hundred times looking for accessories and in particular those feet and could never find them. I go to products + sliders but don't see these feet offered there. How do you find them?

Yes, for hand work the flywheel makes a huge difference...... but after using the Second Shooter I really can't see me ever using the Shark again. Now I have my eye on the KC lite-8.0.

I'm extremely happy with the Second shooter....... actually ecstatic is a better word.

If you go to the store portion of our site: http://store.kesslercrane.com, then you can navigate the menu and drill down to what you need BROWSE STORE>CAMERA SLIDERS>ACCESSORIES>STEALTH and it will give you accessory options for that slider. If you ever have problem finding something, just hit us up on chat or open a support ticket/e-mail and we will get back to you as quick as possible.

That is great to hear! Thank you very much.

I have a pair of those, made by Konova. They're about $130 for the pair and they make things pretty darn solid on my Sachtler sticks. Highly recommended!
