Dec 1st Status Check

Stayed up all night and wrote FOUR PAGES so far! Also downloaded an ITC typeface (online from Linotype for $22) for a logo I'll need for the short. My logo mock-up looks perfect with the real font!

I've purchased a million versions of Final Draft plus a ton of other script-crafting tools over the years. This is the first actual script that I've written that's actually been longer than the "opening shot." It's fun writing what you know you can actually shoot.

I had MTV on while writing and saw The Veronicas' musicvideo. HOLY SH!T THEY'RE HOT--hot brunette identical twins, my favorite!

I love brunettes!

You hit it on the head. I decided last year only to write things I can actually shoot. Make all the difference in the world to have an actual goal to shoot for.

Well, thanks. That's TWO filmmakers on ths board in agreement with me now. Every time I tell my writer that, he looks at me like I'm crazy. Aww, f*ck him anyway. All his stuff was way too frickkin' Twilight Zoney anyway.

Now that I have a story and 2/3rds of a script done, I'm headed for real trouble as we march into January. I have a huge show (Golden Globes one-on-one room) I have to light for right in the middle of January. We'll do a two-day, pre-light over the weekend before the 16th, plus a whole day just to load in. We hang 75-100 units and this show always kills me with all the prep and worrying and everything. That means I'll only have two weekends to shoot and one weekend to post. I have lots of pick-ups and several locations. This is gonna be goddamned tight.

Plus I gotta deal with some major girlfreind issues (lotta drama). Plus drive a car out to my ex-girlfriend who now lives 3 million miles from L.A. On top of that, it's now Xmas eve and I haven't bought one goddamned present. Oh wait, I did buy my girlfriend a black Yamaha electric bass last Friday. But I haven't done a goddamned thing since being off work last Friday except be depressed about my script (the one I rejected). At least I'm happy and excited now about my new story idea. It's still gonna be goddamned tight, though. I'm sure glad this forum is here so I can whine about all my stupid crap. Get ready for some major whining come January . . .

This is the cute-as-a-bug girlfriend? Oh, man. Her with a big black bass deserves a photo.

Wow... lots of drama NBCShooter. Well, here's my status. Finished our first shoot on Thursday night. Footage turned out pretty good. The Performances were excellent! Finished editing the three scenes last night. Now working on audio editing, and my SFX shot. Next shoot is Tuesday night. Then finally finishing on Saturday, the 31st. Oh, also changed the set for the finale scene! Had an opportunity arise to shoot in a much more high production value place. Merry Christmas everyone!

Well, I guess it's just different goals. Personally, I don't want to write somthing and then sit around for the next five years, hoping someone buys it. It's much more fun to write something with an eye on actually seeing it made.

Status: Same as I was two weeks ago. Most of my sci-fi short is shot, except for one scene. I have to wait till after the holidays to get that, as everyone is out of town. Then it's into post!

Yup, that's the one. She flew home for Xmas, so it'll be a cool surprise when she gets back. I can't wait to see her face when she opens it.

EXACTLY. I make decent money at NBC, so I'm not waiting for anybody to "greenlight" my projects. My only problem has been script. Searching for story that's actually shootable without $100 million or the best actors in the world.

awesome you'll be leathal with a script this time :)

I finally whittled 15 pages down to 6 a couple of nights ago - hope I can pull this thing off.

The only thing that sucks about this contest is that I'd love to show someone on here my storyboards or my script or my green screen experiements but can't cause of the no promo rule :( (good rule but want my cake and to eat it too)

Thanks, that's quite a compliment coming from you. I'm certainly excited to see your short for this one--I'm afraid to see what you can pull off WITHOUT a category 5 hurricane in tow. If I pull mine off, it will be a goddamned miracle. I gotta dump one girlfriend, move her crap outta my apartment, avoid any fatal stab wounds, get another girlfriend back, light the goddamned Golden Globes, get my brakes fixed and get my tires fixed on MY car, then fix whatever's wrong with my ex-girlfriend's car and drive it four million miles to her house, blah, blah, blah . . .

Plus, I can't shoot frame one on my short yet, since I don't have my camera yet.

Well it's actually much harder now -- for shed I had shot all the stuff with the guy in the Shed before the hurricane, so I just had to pick up the Mom Daughter stuff in Texas.

But for this one I'm living in a post Katrina New Orleans which means good luck finding an open thrifstore for costumes and you can forget about buying a generator so you can shoot in a flooded still powerless part of town because if you can even find one the stores have trippled their prices.

Also you've been talking about writing for what can be accomplished. And this is exactly what I did for Shed. I had just done a Thriller for a 72 hour contest and it was gragantuan, so for Shed I was like - what's the smallest Idea I can think of that's a good story. Hmm...one guy in a shed -- the Castaway of Zombie movies - perfect. but for this thing I have several locations, a whole new world mythology, 5 characters, dialogue (gasp), a fight scene, a car scene, intensive makeup needs, and special effects --- frickin' crazy!!!!!

At times like this is best to take Buddy Hackett's advice and remind yourself of the conjoined twin whose brother is gay and whose boyfriend is coming over in ten minutes to have sex ... and the brothers share the same poo hole  then I don't feel so bad :cheesy:

(nothing against gayness -- just that it would suck to have to take unothorized deliveries in that area on a regular basis, regardless of your orientation :) )

Oh, great! With all you and Envision have going on, I'm gettin' pretty f*ckin' scared now. But that's what makes this contest fun--all that FEAR!!!
