David, if no one is listing names of people involved, specific locations, etc., how can it be publicity?

Perhaps this thread shouldn't even be open then, as from what I can see everyone is just giving updates of what's happened, peppered with excitement or remorse about what's worked & what hasn't?

I don't see any publicity here, but perhaps I'm not understanding the definition of it. I thought it was no specifics such as footage, pictures, images, scripts, storylines, etc.

Let me know if you were referring to me, which if so I'll apologize now & just keep stone quiet going forward.

I had no one in particular in mind. I was just expressing what my general sense of things is. I'm sure no one is intentionally trying to skirt the rules.

Cool, just wanting to make sure I wasn't sticking out like a sore thumb. I'm sure with a thread that's topic is STATUS, it could be easy to have things look like publicity, though they're not intended.

Publicity or not, there will still be the films people will want to see the most (i.e. the previous winners, mods that enter, etc.). Also, if threads are allowed to be established for each film PRIOR to judging being complete, it can also skew things. I'm not convinced that allowing what happened last time (threads being established prior to judging being over) is a good idea, but it's not my choice to make.

Hopefully, with whatever FLASH Jarred's working on, it'll be similar to a Triggerstreet.com process, which seems pretty refined & hard to manipulate.

I agree Envision. I am most excited about seeing films from people who's films I enjoyed in the previous competition. There will always be films that have anticipation behind them, which could be a good thing, or it could be a bad thing, with expectations so high.

I don't think they will. The last one had the films come up in a random order. If it's anything like Triggerstreet's process (For the new fest), you have to personally view X amount of films before yours can be viewed, etc ... or something like that. You're also assigned a film as it comes up, and can't download others until you've reviewed the one you were assigned.

Seems like a fair process, so you're forced to give a report on whatever came up for you to watch.

Update on status- Just ordered my tape stock for the short. First production cost. $37.44.
Also, ordered a prop on ebay- $28.97.

Total Budget so far- $66.41

It would seem everyone is late in shooting..as with I . 3 times we have cancelled and I am glad to say no actors bailed ( re-Zombie no shows ) . I t was either the props never showed , the weather or now Christmas BUT we are attempting to shoot on Boxing Day . If the weather holds up for us that would be great ..if it turns ugly , then we will be finished . I am afraid I do not have time to edit and do what is required while workin 12 hr shifts ..I really hate to miss this one .
I'm hoping Santa brings all of us nice weather .

Totally fair process!

Which is why I dropped Triggerstreet. Went in for screenplays and they wanted me to review x number of films before I could post anything.

I even tried....but the films they assigned me were unreviewable. At least in polite company.

I actually have most of my shooting done, except for one location. But mine was a sci-fi short I was doing anyway...

While it may not be the ideal for a festival (not sure either way), I think it's an awesome approach for a community, so you don't have people that only want feedback on their stuff & aren't willing to take the time out to view others as well. Or at least I believe it works well for them.

It's impossible to please everyone with anything, so there will always be those who love something and others who can't stand it. Same will be true for whatever Jarred figures out for Sci-Fest ... guaranteed no matter what he does there will be those who complain about it.

I bought a can of play dough. How long does it take to stop motion 6 mins of footage.

script! We don't need no stinking script.

Why wouldn't it? I'm confident bena was kidding, but since the DVX100a IS capable of doing it, and if they submitted in 24P, seems like it'd be eligible to me.

If it were done on the DVX, it would be -- but I would assume that anyone doing stop motion wouldn't do it on the DVX. I certainly wouldn't. Much more trouble than it's worth.

Okay. My writer just told me idea number 2 today (I passed on his first idea). And . . . I liked it! A couple weeks ago, I basically told him, "Look, I want to start with a _________ and a _________, then, here's where all the exciting stuff you write goes . . . and then, it ends with a shot of ____________." I can't believe it, but he actually wrote-to-order. Executing his idea convincingly will of course be a challenge. But at least it has many of the elements I was hoping for.

I may not get a completed script until AFTER the holidays, so I'll really be under the gun on this project. Also, I was hoping to shoot this on an HVX200, but that just may not be realistic. I REALLY don't wanna shoot this on my DVX since I may have some expensive scenes to shoot, and I definitely want that footage on a better camera. So I'll have to borrow some other 24P camera to do that with (my friend just sold his SDX900s). Too bad, since I really wanted that "Best Camerawork" prize for that bitchin' handheld bracket.

So . . . unlike the last DVXfest, I will at least be going in with a script (my zombie short NEVER had a script--the last scene was "written" and shot the night before the contest deadline).

Dec 15- Revised script for hopefully the final time. Have all shooting days scheduled. Now we pray for good weather, and people who will show up! Still trying to get a sound mixer for the film. Everything else is finished!
