D90 Stair-Stepping Removal

I don't have ae?

I don't have ae?

I dont have ae just Premiere Pro CS3. What is a simple way to sort the stair step out with downloaded plugin or cheapish software?

thanks

Thanks to all of you guys. The amount of thought power that went into this problem, which I thought was insurmountable, is amazing.

dp turn files over to non-technical fcp editor.

dp turn files over to non-technical fcp editor.

thanks for all the great ideas! i have a workflow question. as a young DP for smaller projects, i'd like to be able to turn over the best quality files to an fcp editor. so far i've been turning over the out of camera avi files. i would rather turn over D90upscaled then horizontally stretched 1423x801 files in apple pro res.

i was wondering if anyone has made a droplet or something where i can just drop a folder of out of camera avis leave my machine overnight and come back to another folder of beautiful de-jagged aspect-ratio preserved 1423x801 apple pro res .movs that are good for a non-technical final cut editor to just drop into her browser.

so far i've produced pro res files one at a time out of fcp, and they are still vertically stretched and cropped at the top and bottom. any ideas & help would be much appreciated.

Why don't you grade them and print them to 35mm first too? ;-) seriously i think you should hold your horses, most of the magic happens in post and there's no need losing a generation. If the editor doesn't know how just offer your services as an online editor.

duration blocked : 7 SECOND.

duration blocked : 7 SECOND.

I don't understand : I have a videoclip of 3 minutes. when opening in D90 stairstep removal, the clip duration is.... 7 second only!!
like it get the all properties of the ancient replaced file(DMOVIEAUTO.AVI) and the duration too!
change the time line duration(ctrl + K) does not help. my video is cutted at 7 seconds from the beginning, and it is blocked when I try to stretch it on the right.

anyone?

Man, just read the workflow for pp cs3 and my head is completely spinning.

I take it there is no easy plugin / filter solution that we can make for it?

How goes the jello removal search?

Would it even be possible to create a filter that, for pp cs3:
a) removes jello
b) removes noise
c) removes stair stepping

?

open the avisynth script, change the clip name to the name of your clip, open the file in premiere, edit away. i don't quite see what's complicated, even if it's a little backwards.

stairstepping is the only thing that you can't avoid, with steady operating you don't get jello and with light you don't get noise, i don't think relying on a plugin is a good idea, even though it's nice to have around when all else fails.

lol, sorry matt. you need to forgive me, i am very computer retarted in a computer heavy medium.
I saw a few people going for the jello fix, were you involved in that?

i forgive you my son. just don't think it's hard until you've tried it next time. you *don't* need computer skills to open a text file and change one line, even though i guess it's even easier if you started using vi to edit .cshrc files back in 89...

/matt

you don't. it's a driver and you won't ever be using it any more than you'll be "using" the driver for your network card. again, all the info is in this thread.

so i've been somewhat successful now, following the instructions very carefully, the one im stuck on from

http://www.dc-gear.com/d90/

is this

#

# Start up VirtualDubMod and access the File > Open video file... menu item. In the file open dialog, select the destep.avs file.

don't have a destep.avs file, and if its refering to the original video file once you have put the file location in the script, then it didn't change my video one bit.

ah crap,, cause it doesn't show up in the list of files when opened in virtualdub. it shows it as a txt file no avs

of course not, i didn't know that would do anything! haha. doing it now. god damnit.

kk, its saving again. lets see what happens!

so great news, that worked like a charm

but now my 160 meg file is 8 gigs!
Next is going to be to see the best way to uprez this sucker to 1080, fix the noise issue, and jello.

Point me in my next direction matt, progress cometh upon me! :) lol

change the last line of the script to say 1920x1080 instead. scaling down to 720 and back up again is a complete waste. and you don't have to convert it in vd, just open it in pp.

so matt. just re reading a few things back about the upscaller.

would it be better for me to open a 1080p project, insert the D90 footage, and use instand HD to fill the frame, or should i oopen a 1280 sequence, import my 720p footage, upscale it to ( what value ) and then shrink the footage again?

which method creates better results?
