@eteam first of all thanks for all your knowledgeable information , i watched the video that you posted ( it is long ) but very interesting
about the d4/d800 hdmi output and what exactly do we get is yet to be known for some reason , no one who had the pre production model didnt bother to try the hdmi output and show us a test or a sample (why? , i have no idea maybe it wasnt available yet in the preproduction models , or their hiding something )
about "reasons why dSLRs-as-video-cameras "suck"" i know from using it the various problems that arises when shooting with dslrs weather canon/nikon/panasonic , but i have to add i have used the Sony NEX-FS100 a couple of times and i cant say its perfect either and in some respects i prefer dslr's
the sony has very strange colors - typical to sony - too saturated , highlight blown out , and very videoish feel to it , the color profiles inside the camera is awafull and very complicated , too much controls to modify (gamma, knee , color mode , color phase , color level , color depth) which confuses and still after digging in couldnt acheive a pleasing natural look, tried also the G-log (S-LOGISH) from frank glencairn
and still got a weird banding and gradiation with a greenish tint
the FS100 is indeed very sharp and i am not knowledgeable enough so say why what does the sensor processes inside ( but the sharpness just seem wrong with a heavy digital feel to it noise looks like very small blocks )
a couple of times when i used the slow motion mode 50p/60p when panning slow or fast the camera outputs lagging in the movement - it was an absolute nightmare !!
its a videocam and not a still cam in its design and has all the controls and connections one needs , but still i would say handling it is a pleasure , enjoying the output , quality and overall image is another thing ( matter of taste , i didnt like it ) and not to mention the SLT sony dslr's which video features are crap
so sony sure has its place mastering the video field and allot of experience but in the cheap solutions they introduce - they are a disappointment ( havent checked the F3 yet )
and i sure hope that the D4/D800 will improve some of the dslr issues and give us a decent Hdmi output we can work with
