Does anyone know much about the Hyperdeck Shuttle? Can it make its own timecode when recording HDMI? I looked at the Hyperdeck webpage and could come to a definitive conclusion. I will be writing the company about this information.

If anyone knows about this, I would love to hear your expeience. This could be a deciding factor towards nikon.

You can't 'cause' moire with compression, but compression can accentuate it. Can you please pull a screen grab where you see it or at least flag us to the time in the trailer? Thnx

You are correct. But it does cause color anomalies which look like moire under the right circumstances. I also realize, that this video may have been resized improperly.

In the video this scene happens around the 1:58 mark. I see the same color artifacts in her hair that I see in the little boy's hair in the D800 promo.

And besides, it's okay if anyone hates this comparison. It is only meant to give a false hope.

Just got a reply from the Hyperdeck Shuttle guys, and they said no time-code in the shuttle. Though they may be implementing it later, but just in the SDI feed, and they most likely will not have time-code writing when accepting HMDI feed.

=(

All i see is 'color noise', not moire at all.In the shirt that would go away with proper grading and in the hair, have a look at a live redhead or blonde's hair when light hits it a certain way. in many cases, it actually LOOKS like that, reflecting & refracting rainbow colors. i see almost no color noise in the shirt.
Surely you don't expect the camera or codec to CHANGE nature do you ;)

BTW. I watched the clip a few times again and what I am seeing and is all too familiar is highlight clipping. This is to be expected from from Nikon digicams and I believe it is what causes color fringing (not to be confused with chromatic aberration or moire in the high contrast edges as witnessed by so many folks.) I know what would eliminated it but I'm not sure we're ready for hexagonal sensors are we?

I am canceling my D800 order. I just don't see it to be something I really want. There are already plenty of cameras that fit that description, so no need to purchase another one. (also, not getting the 5d3)

I don't get the avengers post? On IMDB says it was filmed with Alexa, and 5D MKII... Am I missing something? Also everything I've seen out of the D800 looks great. Can't wait for some real tests.

Fine. Now can you guide us to the GH2 resources or were you recommending something else?

Thanks! Also just looking back at the 'through the lens' video, and it has a strange 'videoish' quaility. I'm assuming this is just because it was shot at 30p? Can anyone confirm this?

These cameras (all digital cameras, yes even the Alexa) are in fact video cameras. It is up to the shooter to make it look right, or as you might say 'filmic'. Many of these guys who were contracted by canon look to have film backgrounds, and so light for film, rather than for video. So, you end up with a 'videoish' quality.
