D5200 Anyone got it ???

Another interesting thing I just noticed from the lens cap test is that as you push the ISO up past 10000 the noise looks more random and with daylight WB it looks more chroma. It might work for a grainy 16mm looking shot. I think this toy could really compliment my shooting style. There was something special about the D90 that I've found missing from every other DSLR (filmic colours and DR mostly), I think the D5200 has that without all the flaws and workarounds of the D90.

I'm not too fussed about the swivel LCD although I'm sure it will come in handy. I'm going to be using an EVF or monitor most of the time. The 1.2k 3.2" LCD on the D7100 sounds nice and ripe for my z-finder. If the D7100 has the same sensor sans OLPF and doesn't moire the 5200 will definitely be b-cam. The 7100 batteries should last twice as long and the spot white balance and kelvin control make it a lot more attractive to me but it does cost almost twice as much so who knows.

I don't think you guys realize about how much detail has been recovered from the shadows here. The 5D or the D800 would only dream of such performance.

It is amazing how I have been able to manipulate the still jpegs coming out of my D5100. I have been shocked many times as I have recovered so much detail from the shadows and from way underexposed shots. It seems that the video files on the D5200 are behaving the same way. If that is the case Nikon has done a terrific job with the codec.

Nice! That said, the jello does seem considerably worse than the other Nikons.

There is no jello in the car shot. It looks like a bit of tripod shake. Maybe when pushing the shutter. If you want to see what jello looks like use a D90.

Just very curious if the 7100 will do it even better.

I have absolutely no doubt that the D7100 is going to be better. Swivel or no swivel. Beginning with the fact that is going to have a more robust built. I went to B&H today and played a bit with the D5200. It feels exactly like my D5100. Like a toy. After today I know I am definitely getting the D7100. For those that don't want to spend the extra cash the D5200 is going to be a great choice as well.

I'm speechless! especially after that last shot. You know the peepers and fanboys are always gonna find something to complain about. What glass and profile setting you using there? Was sharpness all the way down? Post sharpened?

Lol, you need to read the youtube video description...

Shot at ISO 100 and 200.
Nikkor 17-55 f2.8.
Neutral profile.

Oops sorry mate, I just downloaded straight away, didn't even look.
What were your contrast and sharpness settings?
Thanks for the test. Can't wait to get my hands on this toy.

It's not like anyone is gonna shoot a film with it handheld. It doesn't look any worse the blackmagic CINEMA camera. I'm not gonna waste my time defending it, I'm going to make it work, others will too.

Well your company's name serves you well, LOL!! Seriously, I'm this *holds fingers very close together* close to picking one up myself. The images do look awesome.

Your images are look amazing and its killing me because I havent had time between school and work to actually shoot with the camera >.< Also Squig, how do you like Film Convert? I've always just used built in color correction tools in premiere and used Colorista 2 for color correction/grading.

I haven't bought it yet but I've played around with demo a lot and I really like it. I've been using magic bullet looks for a few years but I find it blows highlights really easily whereas filmconvert just looks great from the get go (provided you shoot everything well). It could be because I'm not the worlds best colourist, but I'm really leaning towards believing there's some really good colour science going on there that plays really nicely with 8bit 420 source material. I've spent hours trying to get the same film look with magic bullet and resolve, I can get close but I still can't get the highlights or the colours looking as good. I'm going to buy it and use it on my feature. I hope there's enough demand for a D5200 LUT.

You talking about my images?

And yet, you know something, there was at times something really beautiful/filmic about that D90 footage.

It had more latitude and more filmic colour than the 5D. This thing is a D90 on roids, it has even more DR and a lot more resolution. And you don't have to point up to the sky and pray to the film gods to set a 1/50 shutter. Only costs half as much too. The noobs who complain about all sorts of crap unrelated to good filmmaking have no idea how we suffered for our art with the D90. (cue violins). :violin:

I need to go into stasis for a few days, I don't have the patience for waiting.
