D5200 Anyone got it ???

There's zero detail because everything's been shot with standard profile with 0 contrast.

But all of the daylight footage we've seen has acceptable latitude, and presumably has been shot this way also. No matter, it sounds like we'll have some knowledgeable hands on this cam soon. Looking forward to your tests.

Another thing is that Nikonrummors is saying that the replacement of the D7000 is coming before April. If they use the same sensor, we could have very good image quality with a much better body.

I too like the feel of the D7000, but I often find myself wishing it had the flip screen of the D5100 :)

Anyway I dont understand what is the point of making a low light TEST video and showing denoised footage...

The idea here is that you can do corrections to the footage, as you would have to do in the editing process, and don't deteriorate the image. It seems that it holds up very well that is why I posted it.

We never know, they could at least put some 1080p 60fps in the next Nikon d7000 successor. I am a d800 owner, but this image is much nicer, Nikon with Toshiba should build on this technology, they are so late in the game, they should act radically. Put some higher end codec in your camera, at least like the gh3 give some option, and 60fps because slowmo is all rage now. If not build a video centric dslr like the 1DC. Build an apsc camera with this sensor with at least a high bitrate codec for a reasonable price like $ 2k. Not the ridiculous price of the Canon 1dc for it to be an instant success and turn the tide.

I am sure Nikon is on its way to a video centric camera. It looks like the Toshiba association will be very positive for that. Nikon has no high end cameras to protect and they will come out with an impressive one. It is never too late in the game if your product is a real winner.

I've been seeing this reasoning since the 5D2 was big. Hopefully it eventually happens.

The more noise we users make about it. The more Nikon will respond. We can see how they have listened a bit more so far in this latest series of Cameras. The D4, D800, D600 and D5200 all have improved video features. I still think they need to add more processing power to their cameras cuz clearly the chip that is processing the Live View is not strong enough. All the cameras have too much skew and choppy playback on LCD when punched in. I think perhaps they could in the next year and a half try to come up with a Cinema Camera based on the best of their current specs. They're not that far off right now with what they already have.

My only problem now is the lack of promo from Nikon on the D5200. Perhaps they are afraid, because they have been busy marketing the D800 for video. It would not look right if there $ 800 camera is doing better than the $ 3000 one. Perhaps they might change there stance when they release the successor to the D7000. Because the more I see it the better it is looking. Someone on personal view confirmed that the output is 422 uncompressed 8 bit. If the DR is comparable to the D800 in video, this will be the best camera under the BMC. We would be very close to the C300 for example. But until now it is as if no one knows. All the reviewers and camera reviewers have just pass on it and except for the 60p of the gh3, I see it potentially as the best video Dslr.

(hopefully) clean and sharp 8-bit 422 with (hopefully) one or two stops less of DR, and (hopefully) good colors
not quite a C300, but maybe 80% of a C300 for 8% of the price (and that price includes the hyperdeck shuttle)

we still have to make sure the image is good, though...

I mean the d800 has been tested to about 12 stop of DR, the image from what we have seen look very sharp. At least to the eye it looks be true HD and seems very prone to moire and aliasing. With the clean hdmi (someone on personalview said that it was 422 8 bit from his ninja) we could get very high bitrate. So it could be close lets say to 80% to 90% of the C300. The C300 is a champ in low light but the d5200 is no slough from what I saw. Even if it is 1 stop lower in Dr, 1 to 2 stop less sensitive and 100 lines less in resolution, it would be quite close for me. Now the C300 has other advantages as a proper video camera with audio/video output, peaking/zebra, Nd filter and what remain to be seen rolling shutter test for the D5200. But the image could be still close.

I am a photographer foremost, but that sensor is a pure technological feat. It is a damn good 24 megapixel apsc sensor, with the best low light and DR. I would shudder if I was Canon photographic department because Nikon could brought a 50 Megapixel D900 with 14+ stop of Dr and killer low light.

The magic of the C300 is that the DR really doesn't decrease as the ISO goes up. That can't be said for the 5200 or anyother DSLR.

That's true. According to DxOMark, however, the D5200 is still getting a touch above 11 stops of dynamic-range at ISO800 - however, that is when shooting 14bit RAW.

I think a D5200 with a Hyperdeck Shuttle will be interesting, and possibly the best value DSLR under $1000.

Andrew Reid, over at EOSHD, put the D5200's resolution on-par with the 1080P of the GH2: http://www.eoshd.com/content/9586/i...0-for-video-no-moire-aliasing-and-good-detail

Close to the C300? Is that a joke?

You tell us.

I bet if I shot a short with both of them recording the D5200 externally only the serial peepers could tell the difference, chances are some them would get it wrong. There's lots of nice GH2 content out there even with its paltry 9 stops. From what I've see so far it resolves more and has less noise than the D800 with as much or a tad more DR and no aliasing or moire.

Considering it costs a weeks C300 rental it's a pretty cool toy.

Well put :)

Samuel, would it be possible to tailor you Flaat D800 profiles for the D5200? I really think your profiles on this camera will make an amazing combination :)

I just want to add that all this talk about clean HDMI and a Hyperdeck might be overlooking a pretty important point. Is the HDMI feed 23.976 or 59.94 with a pulldown? If it's the latter, the pulldown has to be removed in post, and that is a RPITA.

As Squig said, he's going to run some tests and we'll see if the D800 profiles work well on the D5200, how much DR it delivers, etc. If they don't work as they should, and if we confirm that the D5200 is as good as many people think it will be, then I'll definitely create specific profiles for it (again, with help from Squig, since I'm not getting a new camera right now).

In any case, mind you: on the D800, picture profiles can help a lot when you're recording internally, but are nearly useless when recording the 422 feed. I haven't played enough with that camera, but from the comments I read it seems that anything I can do with the picture profile editor can also be done in post if you record the 422 feed.
