D5200 Anyone got it ???

Yeah I saw that video and almost wanted to forget about the camera till I realized it was a fake. Why in the world someone would waste time to make a fake video I will never know... Anyways someone get this camera and test it so I can get it haha.

It's such an obscure thing to do (to make a fake camera test without it obviously being a joke) that it's totally beyond me. The net sure is a strange place! Soon we should be seeing the real tests.

It got me, even though I was now expecting some very clean high-ISO footage (the sensor is quite good, plus, just a full sensor readout with binning should mean at least half a stop better low-light with respect to line-skipping, you have 2 or 3 times as many samples for every final pixel).
As for the why he would put that up there: it has 50K views, and an ad at the beginning, so that's a few beers he got by pissing people off.

from GH2UW @ the personalview thread-

GH2UW 1:15AM

"I just had a very few minutes in a shop to try the D5200 with my Atomos Ninja2...and the good news is that HDMI out is clean (if correctly set up in the menu) and records nicely on to the Ninja's ProRes HQ codec.
Unlike the HDMI/Ninja set up with the D800, the advantage with the D5200 is that auto exposure (via S shutter priority) appears to be functional during Liveview output/HDMI recording.
My subjective impression about the internal codec (recorded to SD card) is that the image quality is better than my hacked GH2's...much less noise and cleaner colors. Sharpness appears to be at least as good...but need to do a side by side test. Auto focus during video is better than D800 (which is hopeless anyway) but nowhere as good as GH2. Overall...decent video from the internal 24mbps codec...but obviously better from Ninja (@ProRes 4:2:2). Wasn't able to test for color banding (e.g. blue sky)...but hopefully better than GH2.
I'll be getting my D5200 in about a week's time and will evaluate the camera (relative to the D800 and the GH2) more thoroughly. Looks like it's going to be a GH3 replacement for me for underwater work, particularly since GH3 bodies are still not available in Australia (the $4,500 body+lens kits are...but who gives a s*%t about that). Screw Panasonic Australia...I'm totally fed up with them."

I'm ordering one tomorrow, should have a mini review up y the end of the week, I'll be evaluating it against a 5D MKIII.

Some more info on the sensor- http://www.sensorgen.info/NikonD5200.html It appears to blitz just about every other DSLR CMOS sensor.

Some very nice clean stills @ 2500 ISO http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1176318/0#11213481

Might take a bit longer, everyone is shut down for Chinese new year till Thursday. Kung hei fat choy!

Man I'm so excited. Probably will order next paycheck then. Only thing I'm going to miss is the waveform and a few other features from the T2I with magic lantern. Also some of the picture styles

Don't get too excited just yet, I've seen some shots with banding but I think it' might be some function causing it that can be turned off. I think it has a lot of potential as a replacement for the 5D just for shooting stills, if the video is better then that's a bonus. I doubt it's in the league of an FS100 or C100 for video but you never know until you try it.

Ok I've ordered one, I just have to get a Leica-r adapter and I'll run some dynamic range and noise tests vs the 5D MKIII. And if you're lucky I'll shoot a nice pussycat video. :2vrolijk_08:

Well Im coming from a T2I so the camera seems like it could be a good middle ground between the FS100 and T2I and would allow me to not have to use adapters on all of my lenses, plus it seems like a really good quality replacement on the stills side as well which I would use.

I think at the very least it will satisfy my stills needs, then I can sell the MKIII and Nex-5n to pay for an FS100. Too bad it doesn't do 1080p 60p.

Can any of the owners confirm or deny histogram in liveview like the D800/D4 has? Thanks

According to the user manual no, only exposure metering in live view. The manual suggests the histogram only functions on photo playback but it's not unusual for a manual to be wrong.

Yep. Watching this one closely. In the past, I've loved the Nikon look. They just didn't keep up.....we'll see if they have a winner on their hands here.

I get the feeling that Nikon is getting closer to their very own cinema camera. And when it comes out is going to be awesome. I was getting the GH3 for video and the D5200 for stills, now it is looking more and more that I will need just one for both applications.

glad I got it yesterday, good addition to Nikon lineup, will shoot a wedding tomorrow, with D800e with Mosaic filter, and this one, see how it compares!
couple of things I miss in 5200: no K temperature, no histogram, no audio levels on display at all time..

No white balance k adjustment! Damn they had to do something to screw this thing didn't they.

This from the manual-

  • I (sodium-vapor lamps): 2700 K
  • J (incandescent)/
    I (warm-white fluorescent): 3000 K
  • I (white fluorescent): 3700 K
  • I (cool-white fluorescent): 4200 K
  • I (day white fluorescent): 5000 K

  • H (direct sunlight): 5200 K
  • N (flash): 5400 K
  • G (cloudy): 6000 K
  • I (daylight fluorescent): 6500 K
  • I (high temp. mercury-vapor): 7200 K
  • M (shade): 8000 K
No 3200 or 5600k!

You can assign the function button to white balance from a grey card or copy a white balance from a photo stored on the SD card.

using a white or gray card is usually the best method, because it sets the green-magenta tint too (for example: my Tiffen ND filters add increasing green cast depending on their strength)
but make sure you get it working properly: I had trouble with this in the short time I had to play with a D800 (and the LCD color tint made it difficult to notice until the footage was in the PC)
