D300s announced

I'm so disapppointed, I've been checking nikonrumors almost every day since those rumors about d400...that must have been early this year - what the hell did they do since then?
Still hoping though...

what about beautiful colors, 24p and native compatibility with the best manual lenses around?

/matt

(wait, i'm the one who said that, i will go down in history)

I miss the D90 colors, I haven't quite been able to nail the color on the MKII yet. But I'm not going back to the jello, overheating, crappy m-jpeg, and 720p. I'll wait for the D700s

they were busy working on their plan to market a camera with the same internals for the 4th time. D300, D90, D5000, D300s.

imagine you could turn off all menus and output uncropped from the hdmi...
possible or too good to be true. The latter no doubt.

This release shouldn't be a surprise to any professional photographer who's been using Nikon for some time. Nikon is a very conservative company and their release cycle is very predictable.

The D300s is a point release, not a true upgrade (hence the "s"). Just some minor additions to refresh the line. We are about in the middle of this production cycle which started with the D3 two years ago and will end when the introduction of the D4 (followed by D400, etc.) so we won't see any major innovations till about a year from now.

Nikon is positioning the D300 line as the top of the consumer/prosumer DX line (hence the addition of the SD slot to make migration from lower models easier - CF is very likely to disappear from the D400 all together). FX is now the professional line and it's very likely that the real Canon 5DII competitor will be found in the D700s (or whatever comes after it).

I own $$$$$ of dollars in Nikon lens and accessories (SB900 speedlite etc...) it's not as simple as putting my D90 on eBay and getting a MKII, all this extra stuff was such a huge investment.

I really had such high hopes for this release, pity there is no other still camera on the market with a good video mode that can fully utilise Nikon lens :(

And who cares about an external mic input, anyone doing serious work records sound off-line anyway, sh*t we do and we predominantly shoot weddings!!

For the first time ever I just stopped myself from buying a nikkor lens on ebay. I'm using mostly nikon ai glass on my MKII but I still haven't found an adapter that I'm happy with.

maybe there will be a firmware update for d90, d5000, d300s on the 4th? They all use the same sensor so it could happen right? Im a hopeful child.

Just watched all the d300s videos. The reason why 'Watch in HD' mode isn't working is that it takes YouTube a few hours or even days to update the link.

Video has the same creamy soft look, [debayer and compression?] but without HD mode I can't see if it's got stairstepping, and the french authors aint replying if it has manual control...

That first Youtube clip makes me almost positive that there is manual aperture and shutter control. How the heck else could she control the image like that in the desert??

There are some stunning shots in there!! I really liked that.

At the 4:40 mark, the handheld shots start. I am guessing that it is the new 16-35 stock lense?
Less jello cause of wide angle??

Anyway, that video destroys the footage that Nikon has on their site.

It appears to have the same D90 color bleed look we all know and love

It might just be a vari-ND filter

Nice, aren't them. Thats no D90 quality at all. But those are done by Professional Photographers. Perfectly exposed and no jello right? It seems that the manual aperture works pretty good, doesn't it. I think that the GH1 delay had a good outcome after all. Can't wait to check the D300s.

...

It certainly looks like d90 quality. And I can clearly see jello!
