for doing cross platform p2 off loading onto a powerbook will a pc user have any problems reading the info? i know the p2 card is written as fat32 and mac os writes differently. lets say i offload to a powerbook and then burn the contents to a data dvd. will a pc be able to read the dvd? i know the contents will be fat32 but will the mac journaled file type encrypt it differently?

YES. Just makle sure you burn a data disc that PC can read. I use disc blaze and play data discs in my PC's all the time from my mac.

DVD-Rs are cross platform

DVD-Rs are cross platform

CD-Rs have Mac Only way to write to them, but DVD-Rs use the UDF standard that Anders mentioned. Both platforms read that standard in the same way. So you're fully safe using the DVD-Rs.

cheers.

I would think you could have an external harddrrive formatted to fat32, and just transfer between the 2 systems. This way is less time consuming do to skipping the burning step, but is more cumbersome since you have to carry a harddrive around.

well the reason i ask is, i have a client who is on avid ds. so i wanted to make sure that if i burnt him dvd-r's of the p2 cards that he would be able to use them. but on a larger scale shoot i'd like to use a portable drive that is fat32 formatted and just copy the cards to it. thanks for the info guys.

No, CD-R's burned in the Finder has a standard ISO9660/joliet filesystem as well as the HFS+

Didn't know that. I meant though using Toast for example. I always back and forth between PC and Mac so I'm just used to always using software for my burns not the OS's built in features.

cheers.
