C300: Cowpunk's Profiles

After doing the C300 firmware update I reinstalled my custom profiles and tried to use the 709LOG and CINEMA_2 profiles, but had a very strange issue. It made a green/turquoise dress turn light blue and purple turn to dark blue. I then tested dark green and got blue.

I have this issue with my C100 as well, certain shades of green/turquoise turn light blue. I get this in WDR as well as C-Log.
I downloaded The "Alexa" profiles and they look perfect, turquoise looks turquoise and green looks green. I wish I knew what caused that or what I can do to tweak all my other profiles to fix it.

I used the new WDR setting on the C300 and as Cowpunk says it's spot on. The firmware update changed the color so older profiles that were developed before the update dont work anymore. Or at least you should check them with a color chart to make sure they do.

Great work on these profiles Brian Cowpunk ;-) Been shooting on the C100 with C-log and have noticed the green spike after grading so appreciate these edits to address that.

A Variant on the WideDR profile would be awesome if you have time, using the WideDR gamma with a more usable Colour Matrix for less grading :)

Cheers, Ross

I have the same problem after updating new firmware, I have the turquoise color looking like blue for all three profiles 709Log, Cinelog and cinema2. But Wide DR is spot on correct. Are there any tweaks I need to do for those profiles to be correct? Thanks a lot

I have 1. 00.1.00
Should I stick with this or update to latest firmware.
Gonna test 709log later tonight.

Interesting read. Thanks for all of the work that has been put into these.

I have a C100 with firmware at 1.0.2.1.00. Having trouble loading any of these through the Card transfer option as well as the status option. The profile I created saves as a .CMF file while the other available profiles are .CPF. Example AbleCine has a CPICT401.CPF. When I copy my file is reads as Camset4.CMF. Is this a function of the newer firmware? Would love to get these loaded ad working.

I'm no longer using custom profiles since I did the latest firmware. All is good for me and C Log as well as WideDR.

Fair enough, but you take care to perform a color grade on your files Erik? What if you were delivering a finished image for broadcast with no budget for coloring?

Been readng thi forum for more than a year and finally got my C100 today and thank God (and Erik) I read this first....saved mea lot of time messing around with profiles.
C-Log and WDR do have fantastic colour righ out of the camera with the new firmware which I installed.

I have a 70-200 2.8 IS II ad although I am 6ft 4 and quite strong....I'd need to be an Olympic weightlifter to carry it around wth th C100 so I am robably going to get the Canon 24-70 F4 L IS.

Wish therewas sticky wth the best of accessories fr he C100 bcause now I am going to hae to reread a lot of stuff.....happy days!!

Are the profiles still correct for the latest C100 firmware? Particularly I am interested in the 709 Log profile.

I've just started doing some broadcast streams with my C100 and XF305, and I had an issue wondering if anyone here has solved:

- Theatrical lighting.
- White balance both cameras to the same lighting.
- K = 2000
- XF305 seems "normal" and properly set.
- C100 seems "pink" especially skin tones.

I am using EOS Standard on the C100 and Tru vid on the xf305. I tried all the other "Brian" picture styles on both cameras. Has anyone been successful balancing the color temp in theatrical settings with these two cameras? Individually, either image is beautiful, but very different. XF305 at 2000k is much "cooler" (neutral?) than the C100. There appears to be no way to go below 2000k for this kind of balance. Since I don't have post production option on this due to the live stream, it would be great to get these closer in look out of the gate. If nothing out there, which of the various settings would you start modifying?

Thanks in advance.

If you want a sample I can post one later. Wondered if anyone had already solved a similar problem themselves.

Hey man - overall, I would steer clear of the EOS Std profile on the C100 as much as possible. It pushes reds way to far and isn't terribly flattering to many skin tones. That red push may also be causing the pinkish/magenta cast in the theatrical lighting. Another thing to keep in mind is that the C series cameras are very sensitive to color, and color contamination (green spike in cheap flo's, for example), so when dialing in a Kelvin temperature, you may need to also compensate with R, G, or B white balance adjustment in the custom profile menu.

An easy way to see how sensitive the C cameras are to color is to light a room with consumer tungsten lighting, then switch your WB between 3200K and tungsten preset. You'll notice that they're slightly different, and likely that the preset WB looks more neutral. This is due to the tungsten preset doing additional RGB compensation that simply dialing in a Kelvin temperature does not do.

My recommendation for matching C series and XF series cameras is to use the same gamma and color matrix settings on each camera (Norm, Cine, etc), but leave the other color palette adjustments at default. Use a WB preset instead of dialing in a Kelvin temp. If finer WB adjustments need to be made, the cameras WB presets can be adjusted in increments of +/- 1 to 9 depending on if you want to go cooler or warmer. For added confidence, use a color chart and/or greyscale with RGB parade to to make sure both cameras are seeing colors as closely as possible.

I've matched C series and XF cams many times, and this is the most efficient way to do it. Hope that helps!

As usual, you have some great advice. I suspected as much. Thanks very much Brian. I'll start from there. Hopefully this will be useful to the next one down the road doing this.

I'm really liking Brian's CINEMA.2...Its great.

I'm just curious as to why its not as flat as Canon's own CINEMA profile, as Brian's CINEMA.2 uses Color Marix: Canon Log and also Gamma: Canon Log.

How would dialling a few Color Matix's make it not as flat as Canons Cinema Profile? Not that I don't like it i actually prefer it but was just wondering.

Cheers.

Any possibility Brian or someone could repost the C100 profiles .zip? It appears the Dropbox link on the earlier pages is broken.
