Clean HDMI CONFIRMED on the T4i.

I think things will start to change as people are not buying the new Canon as much for video.

Canon is probably the most frustrating company I've ever dealt with in that they are tiering everything to death. Want autofocus, then get the t4i; want 3x zoom, then go back to t3i; no moire = 5d3, but image is still soft; want true HD?

And how is that different from Sony or Panasonic? All the Sony DSLRs lose to the Canon variants.

Yes, the Nex-5n is great for what it is but the images it makes are not that same as the canon 7d or the 5d mark iii. I own all of them. The GH2 has two things going for it and that is sharpness and a great motion codec. But it lacks in other areas.

So where does this "Canon this, Canon that" mentality come from? I don't get it. Panasonic hasn't done ANYTHING for awhile. Sony is just recycling all these DSLRs. Where are the better ones people are moving to?

The BMC is so different, it doesn't even compare.

maarek - I agree with you, it has challenges in several areas (e.g., stills, white balance, dynamic range, lack of weathersealing), and it is a 2010 camera - but it does have more than a couple of things going for it over mirror-box cameras. In addition to the above, I would add:

3) unlimited recording time

4) a viewfinder that continues to work in video mode

5) a multi-aspect (3:2, 4:3, 16:9) sensor

6) lack of shot-ruining moire [maybe that's what you meant by great motion codec?]).

I left out the availability of the hacks for improving image quality because I don't use them. But some GH2 shooters are getting great results from them - and Magic Lantern, as great as it is, does nothing for Canon IQ.

I also left out:

- the adjustable mic input level because most of the Canons get manual audio level control with Magic Lantern
- the rotatable LCD because the 60D, T3i and T4i have that
- the crop mode because the T3i has that, and
- silent touch screen autofocus because the T4i has that (finally)

But none of the non-Cinema Canons have #3, #4 or #5 and you'd have to spend $3500 on a 5D MkIII to get rid of the moire. Worth it for some shooters, but not for me :-)

Cheers,

Bill
