CineForm

Could you email me or support a window capture of the log window. Sounds like that Velocity might need some update (DirectX 9 update maybe.) The 0x80070057 error code is a DirectSound error report -- never seen one of those.

Two things to try. 1) rename the AUDIO directory in CONTENTS to AUDIO2, this should disable the audio to see in the video path is working. 2) Will MediaPlayer play the MXF files -- it should?

David

My Cineform DVCPRO50 edit FINALLY began today!

Is there a playback setting somewhere that I am missing? The Cineform files don't scrub in Real Time in Premiere (Pro 2.0) the way my old DV AVI files did. When scrubbing the timeline the preview (audio and video) is way behind. I often use this technique for finding audio (and video) hotspots. They play back in the timeline monitor when I hit play in RT, just scrubbing lags and it even lags in the source monitor. Any settings within Premiere I should be aware of?

Thanks.

I think scrubbing plays a window of audio of about 5 frames, starting two frame before the CTI. That might be throwing you off. Is that what you are referring too? Years ago when Aspect HD was first created, we found that to be more natural for most use cases, scubbing one frame of audio is of little use.

David:
Now that DV Rack 2 is rolling out, can you give us an example of the workflow we might use to take advantage of Cineform's features?
I've got Prospect HD and I'm hoping to be able to capture at 1080 and uprez to 1920 x 1080. What I don't have yet is my new Dell M90 Core 2 Duo yet, when I do I'd like to know the best approach.
(I can't find anything on the Serious Magic site about removing pulldowns on 1080. Do you happen to know if they have this feature?)

Thanks!

Mike,

I very much doubt DV Rack 2.0 with remove the pulldown as 1080p24 doesn't exist in the DVCPRO-HD standard. So you will take the DV Rack AVI into HDLink which can remove the pulldown as it creates and uprez's to the CineForm AVI.

I mean when I drag my timeline marker ( I think that is what it is called) across a clip (on DV) I get an accurate frame by frame preview in the timeline window, as well as audio. I do that now with Cineform files and it is not frame by frame accurate it lags behind asecond or two. If I open up a DV project and use some of my old DV clips it is still frame by frame accurate- which leads me to believe there is a Cineform setting I am missing somewhere. Thanks for yoru help.

roro,

Weird. Contact support. Again we only tested HD modes with Aspect HD. So maybe you setup the preset/project weirdly.

Okay. As long as I don't have to use Magic Bullet for that. I haven't used my camera or Cineform in almost two months. I'm forgetting what I can do with it.

BigMike, what Core 2 Duo chip spec you choose on your M90? I ordered lappy the other day with a 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo for use with DV Rack and CineForm, hopefully will handle 1080p24....

Haven't ordered it. Dell won't be shipping for a month!

2.16 is good enough for DV Rack, but I'm thinking somewhere in the lines of 2.33.

We have a Dell M90 with a 2.33Mhz Merom -- it is very nice. 1080p24 will decode fine with a lot of CPU preformance to spare, yet a single 7200rpm laptop drive will be limited to single stream and short-ish (a few seconds) transitions -- sustained multistream will be beyond the drive, no the CPU.

David: Now here's the question the salesman at Dell couldn't answer:

"Is it firewire or a Firewire 800 port on the computer?"

I've a G-RAID 500G drive and a G-RAID Pro 2.5 TB drive. Firewire will work, but they would rather be Firewire 800 for full performance.

There is a 4-pin FireWire connector on the Dell M90. For performance this FireWire 400 connection will likely allow sustained two 1080p24 streams (more 720p24.)

Thanks for the feedback David and BigMike. Getting DV Rack to capture 720/1080 all frame rates from the HVX and one stream of 10 bit 1080p24 ProspectHD from Premiere on my new laptop is fine. If it is just a matter of rendering transitions, no problem for me with the laptop. Any editing projects done on the laptop would be to external drives. If we get the low budget feature shot next year, I will build a tower with better specs than my Dell laptop, as I will have the OEM AJA Xena card for on-line and HD-SDI monitoring. That is a very good deal that CineForm is offering on various Xena cards and I am going to take advantage of it while it is available and order the upgrade to ProspectHD and go with a AJA Xena LHe.

I almost wish I had waited a while to buy so that I could have gotten that deal!

Well, when I get my next tower (once Dell had quad core workstations next year) I'll be more serious about that Xena card.
