Check-in for Zombie filmmakers

Depending on your plot (or lack of), you might not need subtitles. :happy: But they'd be nice. Any type of editing software should be able to generate some text over an image. What program do you use to edit?

I've been researching for this very important project (this could change the world)... and the one thing that's really puzzled the hell out of me is why don't the zombies ever mess with each other? It would be cool if there was a pin or some kind of a patch which identified you as "one of the gang"...

I could see a swarm of zombies crunchin' some guy down and just as they're nibblin' off the cerebral cortex one of them smiles and says, "here's your orange jacket".

I just finished 28 Days Later... and this kept popping in my head... why just the rage towards people who aren't infected?

Maybe they've been listening to too much Rush Limbaugh and they think the other guys are Democrats?

One concern/thought(which may have been already addressed -if so please disregard):

Seems as though there are a lot of people who are planning on making a film and we've opened the door to any members on this site(with DVX's). But, what about the possibility of a sandbagger, some amazing filmmaker that jumps in as a member on this site just to potentially clean up on the great prizes that have been attached to this project. Basically that the contest maybe should exclude any new members that joined after the prizes were announced. Yes I'm going a bit overboard, but I'd hate to see all the long time members put the time and effort into this then have someone drop in, win, then disappear. Just a thought.
 
I thought about that also... there's a couple of BRAND NEW guys to the board who are in.

But really, why not go for it anyway? I don't actually expect to win... of course I'm hoping to win (we all want that 16x9 lens)... but mostly I'm excited to be a part of the frenzied competition.
 
I didn't think about that, but that's a valid point. The prize cutoff-date is a good idea. But I also welcome all of the competition. Even if I do not win, it's still a great exercise, and that's what this contest is about. Doing the best you can with the restrictions of time, subject and resources. So I dunno. I'd say if these guys are steven spielberg in disguise as a newbie filmmaker, then maybe we should not allow them... but that would be pretty cool, to compete in a film contest against a major filmmaker. Imagine if you won? hahaha Oh geez... I'm rambling.

Same as any competition, there might always be someone better...except this time, we're having fun and gaining experience as well...without having to pay an entry fee!!!

Thank Jarred and Barry...as much as you can...cause I've never seen anything this amazing...since that one sunday with my exgirlfriend...boy that was a good day...heh :)
 
I thought I read somewhere you have to have at least 100 posts to the forum to enter this zombified contest?

UPDATE: "The festival judging is *only* open to current DVXuser members with more than 100 posts." Ok so the 100 posts thing is for voters not entrants...my bad.

They should set it at least at 20 posts or something for entrants. That should make it easy enough to check someone's post history and see if they are full of ****.
 
I think we're definitely going to see some new faces, but some of them will likely become more active members after the fest. We'll also pick up some new members. Everything is bigger about this DVXfest, so we're spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to make it run smoothly. I don't think it would be fair to change the rules after I've had them publicly posted for so long, but we'll definitely be looking at "lessons learned" after we put the zombie edition to bed.
 
Well said Barry... that was the point of my post. You CAN'T change the rules after the contest has started.

Phil is also right... in most competitions you have to first display a level of competance to compete (let me work in a variant of "compete" once more) with the real pros in the game. Think of this like the US Open... it would be pretty cool if somebody comes out of nowhere and blows our doors off.

With that said, I seriously don't think I'll blow the doors off, but perhaps I could resurrect some dead socks from last month's entry and make something new for the July/August one. :happy:
 
Alimar's sock puppet movie from the last DVXFest still cracks me up--I've got it on my hard drive. It did occur to me he might make a zombie sock puppet film--and I for one, am all for it. :beer:

What about people like me who have been a member since Jan '05, but only have 17 posts? Most of my time on this forum is spent reading.
 
As a relatively new member of this forum, I personally think it's pretty elitest to think that the only ones who can enter are the ones who "have put in their time" on the boards. What kind of BS is that? I'm entering, and I won't even get to vote for my own movie, so take that.

BTW, we should have two categories, one serious, and then you are required to make a sock puppet version of your movie, the best combination of the 2 takes the cake.
 
plus, as a first time entrant, im more interested in what people have to say about my work, and if there's prizes involved ... even better.
 
hey dude, if you dont like it and you think it's elitist, dont talk **** about it on this forum.

It's to keep people from spilling in and screwing up the polls when it comes time to vote on these things.

I believe Barry S. already said it was too late to change any rules. I'm all for having a minimum post count to be able to vote. It definitely filters out any trolls and cheaters. For those of you who are barely starting to post and feel it's unfair, think of it this way. DVXuser.com is a community, just like many other forums out there. In order for the community to work, users need to voice their opinions and contribute to the site. It's these users (contributors) who keep DVXuser.com going, and it's only right that they receive certain privileges.
