Check-in for Zombie filmmakers

Yes. Definately something more fun - and a more of an even competition - about the starter pistol going off at the same time for all of us.

However, I keep getting distracted from editing a Zombumentary (zombie mockumentary) I shot in May on my single chip Canon (before my DVX acquisition in June) but was hoping to put that up for exhibition (if I finsih it and if I would be allowed two submissions) for the festival.

If not I'll just stick it i the "other" section in the grabs/clips forum -- but who would see it there? :(
 
Hi, This is my 1st post! Our team is submitting to the competiton. Thank goodness for the deadline extention! We did all of our shooting this weekend. Glad to have found this site!

What's really the difference between "buzz" and knowing it was created by one of the pros on here? Either way, it can influence judging decisions. I know for myself, I won't have time for credits on the festival/online version anyway ... I'm going to be shaving every second I can just to fit to the 5 minutes.

My hope is that either credits are blurred, or they're left out altogether ... it'll give it more of an even playing field.

my apologies if I've stepped over the line, but it was an honest mistake - didn't take into account the rule which says "no promotion" which I should have taken more to heart.

To the others here; the film was not lying around (do people have films lying around?!?), I'm an amature, the film was made with the goodwill and hard work of friends and family last sunday (with the help of Jared's super long last batteries ;-).
Sorry I don't live on this forum and have a squillion posts under my name, but I don't work in this industry - I do frequent the forum a lot, I just don't post much - didn't realise you had to meet qualifying criteria of other members, I thought belonging to this forum was enough.
T'would be a real bummer if we were disqualified - we went to a lot of effort.
I thought the whole objective of the competition was to get folks out and making films? Which is exactly what it inspired me to do. Up until now the only time I get to use my camera is for talking head shots for corporate DVD's, so last weekend was a blast. I'm a new media/web/graphic designer - not a film maker.
Anyway, hope I'm still allowed to submit. Jared's call ultimately.
 
I don't think anyone's coming down on your for have so few posts ... my only comment was to get busy with some if you wanted to break the 100 mark & be able to judge as well & fully take part in the festival.

As far as people questioning if it was "laying around" or not, it must have been something in your wording. No worries & don't take it to heart too much.

Glad to have your film in the mix!
 
Thanks, I'll try and up my postings but if I don't break 100 does it just mean I can't judge but can still enter? Anyway, guess I'm going to be busy editing - for intended 5 minutes worth we ended up with over an hour and a half of footage.
 
You can enter no matter how many posts you have; you can't vote unless you have at least 100.
 
Count me in. My team and I shot our zombie short over the weekend.. in scorching Atlanta! My actors were ready to pass out in the heat!

New deadline is a big load off. Means I shoot pickups if needed and won't kill myself editing.

I'm not even gonna try to make 100 post deadline... I just don't have that many silly questions in me. I'd like to vote, but unfortunately this is the BEST forum around.

If I have a question, I do a search and find it. And if some else has a question... Barry, Hudson and others with much more experience than myself chime in on posts in record speed. I post if I can't find the answer here...or other boards... but it's rare.

I bet this site has a ton of "unofficial DVXusers" that visit the site frequently and simply search posts and get the answers they need.
 
You're cool. The pic was no big deal and I won't hesitate to drop filmmakers a note if they're getting carried away. So far, I haven't had too because everyone is cool and I really haven't seen any abuse. As you can see, you'll get a little scorched from the other filmmakers waaaay before I'd DQ a film. :) You're exactly right, the point is to get *everyone* out making films, regardless of whether you're a poster or a lurker on the board.

Films should be rated on merit and merit alone--and I believe our members will be fair. It's up to the filmmakers as to whether credits are included. I say include them and be proud of your work.

thanks Barry for the clarification - I was beginning to think I'd broken some unspoken law ;-)
I would have been very depressed if the first time I finally manage to rally my friends into giving up their weekend I blow their goodwill because of a shot of a zombie in make up. Whew!
Competition has been a great inspiration so thanks to the folks who organised it - personally I'm not in it for the prizes. The experience alone was worth it - the day was hysterical - and oh-so good to use my camera for something fun.

You're pushing it, but good luck with that deadline. Great production value in a lot of those shots with your development trailer for Ancanar ... if you're a big part of that, then I'm sure your zombie short will have some pretty impressive production value as well. Look forward to seeing it!
 
best of luck - good on you for getting into it. That's tight though. I'm just logging all my tape now, and I've still got plenty to do :shocked:
