Dark Side of the Camera
Cool! Anybody download it yet?
Yeah, and what I saw is a dealbreaker - at least for me.

I just dloaded the video from the Norwegian site. Don't waste your time it's just a video of some guys juggling (looks like a home movie).
You know what really makes me sick is that if I have $800 to spend on a camera, I can now get a cinema-size sensor with great resolution, selectable frames rates, slow motion, ect. But when it comes time to get support gear... $800 will buy me a stupid bike handle with some aluminum tubes... *cough* Zacuto and Redrock.
OK, let me get this straight. I absolutely, positively got to get a CONTINOUS 60 minute video. I cannot stop the recording as the vows in a wedding are about the halfway mark (30 min) I can not risk stopping by changing cards, batteries, whatever. It must be in HD 1080p/30. If the T2i can not handle that, I'm not interested.
I wondering if we could use lenses from camcorders with this 7x crop option.
From camcorders, probably not. But perhaps c-mount lenses from 16mm movie cameras.I wondering if we could use lenses from camcorders with this 7x crop option.

Not too shabby.
They call the camera "Kiss" in Japan (WTF?) - so make sure you see the right clip.

Probably about 5%. Consider that a professional camcorder like the HVX200 sold 60,000 units in three years, worldwide, and that when the D90 was introduced Nikon projected that they would sell 130,000 units.
PER MONTH.
We are a very, very, very, very tiny little blip on the overall marketplace as a whole. And none of these SLRs are aimed at us anyway -- they're aimed at "photojournalists" who produce video for the web. We just so happen to want to adapt the products to our usage, but we're not the primary audience by any means.
Doubful; there's probably 200 photojournalists for every filmmaker out there.
Okay, seriously? We are talking about the same group of guys who insist on comparing a $1700 DSLR against a $30,000 Red here, are we not?!!this is not a fair comparison.
youre comparing a $6000 video camera to a entry level <$1000 dslr.
if youre going to make comparisons at least do it within a similar price range.
And your point is? We already HAVE the under $1,000 filmmaker-appropriate camera, so -- buy one and shoot.there are many filmmakers that cannot afford $6000 but will spend $1000 easy.
take into account all the filmmakers that until now have used consumer camcorders (who now can use something like the d550) and i think the numbers of PJs vs filmmakers is similar

In other words, you get what you pay for.
FOR NOW...you DON'T GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! ....you get what Canon will give away, not knowing an entire market place would pay much more than they are asking...
