Canon Rebel T2i

is this supposed to replace the t1i or slot in above it? a sub-$1000 dslr with 7D video would be incredible, especially if you can get it kitted with some of those new lenses.

EOS Movies: Full HD video with creative control

As the ability to record Full HD video becomes increasingly important, Canon continues to deliver DSLR technology that sets the industry benchmark for multimedia functionality. The EOS 550D records video in full 1920x1080p HD resolution, allowing photographers to select the frame rate preferred from 30, 25 and 24fps, as well as offering 720p video at 60 and 50fps. The EOS 550D also includes a 3.5mm stereo microphone socket, enabling the use of an external microphone when capturing video.

Photographers can also take manual control over exposure settings, changing the depth of field and degree of motion blur to shoot more creatively.

Holy crap. 1080p/24 with full manual controls for $799. Big move, Canon. Big move, indeed. Do you think they've considered how this could affect 7D sales? Are they undercutting themselves?

Edit: Wait... are we to assume it has FULL manual control, or are Tv and Av modes enough to qualify as "manual control"?

hmmm, if this is true, will anyone dump their 7D for this and pocket the difference?

Id be plenty happy to sell my 7D for $14-1500 or so and pick one of these $800 cameras up.

hmmm

h264 still?

it has a option on the menu to turn manual controls on the movie on and off. its nice actually

and dont think this would affect the 7D sales since it IS still a still cam market. 7D is a way better cam in terms of action/sports photography

It will affect the 500d sales since its a step up but other than that,

it has the same moire fest video from 7D :)

Nah, I'll be sticking with my 7D.

I held a 450D in my hands again the other day and I couldn't believe how cramped, small and cheap it felt. I love the feel and layout of the 7D too much to go back. The controls/button layout of the lower end Canon's are, well... terrible in comparison.

Not to mention the faster burst rate, 100% viewfinder, 19 point AF system, build quality and weather sealing, but I guess I'm looking at this from a photographer's point of view, not just a filmmaker.

One thing I'll be curious to see, though, is whether the 550D/T2i suffers from the 7D's overheating issues. Not being weather sealed and only having one processor, I assume not.

true, i do like the control layout of the 7D better, and the weather sealing, but not sure if i like it $6-700 better.

Dang it i just got my 7D like 2 weeks ago, now im thinking i should have waited. Im def into photography, but id say my current focus is like 65% video/ 35% still.

With that extra $600 i could get a few more lenses etc...

I really wish nikon would have stepped up, i would have gladly kept my D90 if it had these features. :(
