So, as it turns out, there is a bunch of YouTube videos with the "cinematic" smartphone footage. This one is from an anamorphic lens manufacturer.
The footage looks great for a smartphone, but if this was made with a ILC mirrorless camera I would have returned the camera because it's not the IQ I expect to see from something like a GH5 or X-T3 camera. I'm sure you could shoot a job with it, but it would not be my first camera pick.
Nikon's CEO Mr. Umatate: The market slowed down sharply. Our unit sales decreased to less than one-sixth in comparison to fiscal 2012 which is the recent peak year. There may be more downside risk ahead
Regardless of the camera, all of these 10,020,290,585,665,110 YouTube videos look the same; same music, same high-quality video look, same gimbal shots.
I'm exhausted.
But it's already beyond the technical skills of an average amateur smartphone user. Or a really good smartphone shooter, even.
... Camera companies will only survive if they have diversified enough to not depend on camera sales to keep them afloat.

Which is the point of this thread (accidental on purpose). If your DSLR is gathering dust in the closet, how likely are you to buy its replacement? And that's why the consumer camera market is dying. None of my friends or family use their cameras anymore, they use their smartphones, while their Canons and Nikons rot in the closet...

Happened across this today. I liked it more than any of the glossy/cool videos I've seen lately. Felt like I was in the crowd at some kind of wierd, oddly-mesmerizing concert: https://youtu.be/i7X8ZnmLfM0 It was shot with an iPhone and I didn't care.
This is the only part I disagree with. (if I may).... NOW is he time to buy any new kit you need before it slows down and the prices rise.
Quite so.. they have all bought a digital camera. that market has hit saturation and 90% of the people who bought a digital camera in the last decade are unlikely to ever buy another one.
Many of the amateurs and indeed the pros have equipment that does all they need.
Yeah, I watched this when it was first posted 5 years ago. Pomplamoose are a super talented couple.
