What does this mean:
The EOS 550D is the first in the EOS range to feature Movie Crop and gives consumers more flexibility to capture important moments which would otherwise be too far away.
Ok...that's what I figured. So I guess now the question is...will it have a better PQ in video mode since it does not have to skip lines? Also, light sensitivity...would it be negatively impacted? I'd imagine that shallow DOF will go down the drain. But if one is able to chose between the "normal" mode of shooting and using this feature for wides...then it would be sort of like what Barry mentioned the other day. That would be cool. Hopefully it's not just one mode for shooting movies.Instead of down-rezzing like the 7D does (which makes for moire and aliasing), the T2i uses a 640x480 portion of the sensor which gives it a crop factor of 7x, thus providing "zoom"

Your right...it's for SD mode only.I'm under the impression that mode is only for 640x480 recording. My guess is that it still skips lines in 1080p.
They do that all the time, but note the BAFTA event hasn't happened yet, so this introduction has nothing to do with that.Hey, how about that?!? They introduced…a camera!
You would definitely want it to be just one mode for shooting movies -- otherwise you'd have a field of view of about a, what, a 1/8" video camera?
Michael Olsen said:Very interesting. It will be good to see how it holds up in resolution tests, moire, and geometric skew. I noticed a max continuous shooting speed of under 4 fps, making me wonder if the sensor reads out rather slowly. Maybe they are using a crop, this time? Lots of questions, no answers!
If I were a betting type of person I'd put my bet on this...But it could be that all of this extra horsepower on the 7D is for the high frame rates in still mode and not necessarily video processing.
But... does that mean the 7D, with its 8fps sensor, could do 24fps at 2/3"-sized moire-free 1920x1080? That'd be huge...
I smell a new petition.![]()
That's exactly what Tramm was eluding to in his interview last week (at least that's how I understood it).But... does that mean the 7D, with its 8fps sensor, could do 24fps at 2/3"-sized moire-free 1920x1080? That'd be huge...
