Canon EOS 1D-X

People talking about the price should understand foremost that this is a photo camera. In fact it is Canon new flagship photo.... camera. For many Canon photographer, the photo side only will warrant the price. What I think is important is that most of this tech will come in lower end bodies, which will be priced accordingly.

I agree, its a photo camera with video stuffed into it (of course with upgrades, but nothing game changing or industry changing). The 5D will probably be more oriented towards the video needs, when its released in the next few months.
Who buys a 5D for photos anyhow these days :P

The price is expensive because the 1D series are built like tanks. You won't find a video camera on the market that has these features and can take the abuse this can take out in the field.

I've posted this on the other 1D X thread, since they are both addressing the same product, I think this is worth sharing since its probably the first official video of the camera.

"Guys, I seriously suggest you click on the video on this page. At the beginning you'll probably say: "Artsy fartsy video, nothing special". You'll probably complain about the noisy picture, and some color banding artifacts. However, wait until the very end and see how this was shot, and get ready to see your jaw drop on the floor... I need one of these! :)"

Is good but not impressive, I Would love to know why they didn't show it at full 1080p instead they publish a 960x540 low res instead ;)

around are more impressive Full HD videos with the FS100 at 30db

I honestly don't think the nov 3rd press release has anything to do with cameras. If that were the case, I highly doubt this would have been released a week or two early. I would think they would have added this to the announcement to make it that much bigger. Wouldn't it be something if they announce a set of cinema lenses in the price point of zeiss compact primes. You never know with Canon, seems they always have something up their sleeves.

I wouldn't read too much into any highly compressed web video. Let's wait for something more realistic.

I am speculating a lot, but if this camera has as good as GH2 scaling (is possible because they have about the same megapixel) 10 bit 422 and a cinestyle picture mode getting the most of the DR (which canon says has been improved) with internal codec at 350 megabit. Then it would be ground breaking and I can't understand how some people are saying that it is not a major upgrade in dslr technology. Some are saying that they need clean hdmi to use an external recorder which will record at what ......................... 220 mbit prores HQ, so you will record at 2/3 the internal bitrate, where is the logic. If it is as above, then it could be a true contender to the Slog Sony F3 with external recorder in the $ 20 000 range, which itself is a contender to the $ 60 000+ ARRi Alexa.

Now it is out of my budget but we could see a lot of this tech migrate in its lower end sibling like a 7d mark 2 and 5d mark 3. Canon has upped the game and we should all be glad as Sony and Panasonic will be forced to stop insulting people with their 8 bit avchd 24 mbit codec in $ 5000 cameras.

Agreed. This could be very exciting. I think it's in the best interest of all of us to wait for the 5D III to see how much of this video content trickles down to it.

The sensor is at least one generation better than the GH2's, 16 channel 2 bus readout, 2 Digic5+ processors, and a Digic IV just for the exposure meter FFS. I would expect the image quality to kick the GH2 into touch.

And at 10 times the price, shouldn't it?

its not this model and price ... its the fact that some of this tech will show up in the 5d3, 7d2, 70d and t4i
