VIDEO EDITING - what should you look for in a new PC?

Hi guys, I'm at that point we all get to, when we realise that 'super-computer'
we bought last year is now a straining old grandad, put to shame by a newer crop and slowing down as its components give out.
So before I dive in and get a quad-core-something-or-other, it would be great to hear from real users, who have first hand experience of what makes a workhorse video editing PC.

It's mainly RAM and Video-card right?
But how much RAM, and which video card?

These are the main thing as far as I know, but hey - I don't know!
Please share your thoughts,
thanks!

Well, if you are just buying a PC off the shelf, support and reputation are at least as important as what is in it. It would really suck to have something go wrong, only to find out you can't get decent support for it. Like I had a Mobo go bad on me, and a project coming up. I emailed the support, and got no response for a couple weeks. I tried calling the Company (Long distance to Taiwan ) and got no answer. When they finally did get around to responding, they told me to send it in, and they would get around to checking it out. If it was a defect, they would get around to sending me another one. I know it was an issue, because I had found several people online with the same issue, which boiled down to crappy Quality Control. But, since I had the project coming up, I bit the bullit and bought a new Mobo, and have never bought anything else from Asus. I know almost everyone swears by them, but how good is it really if you can't get a problem taken care of?
