It's here, and it's gonna cost $5000, body only! Oh, and it still only has digic IV processors, so don't expect that leap in the price tag to suddenly translate to significantly improved video perfomance.

Yea, I was hoping it would be cheaper. Does anyone know the price for the xlr recording module? 1TB flash adapter?

he EOS-1D Mark IV, EOS HD Video Powerhouse

Over the past year, Canon’s EOS HD Video technology has changed the way users capture 1080p HD video and opened new doors for multimedia journalists and Hollywood cinematographers alike with full manual exposure control, selectable frame rates, and interchangeable lenses on some of the largest and most sensitive image sensors on the market. Canon continues this innovation trend with the new EOS-1D Mark IV Digital SLR with Full HD capture and full manual exposure control, plus selectable frame rates on an all-new APS-H-sized image sensor that’s similar in size to a Super 35mm motion picture film frame. The large sensor allows filmmakers to achieve shallow depth-of-field just as cinematographers have traditionally done using much higher-cost motion picture equipment.

The more than 50 Canon EF lenses compatible with the EOS-1D Mark IV give videographers incredible creative options, including an impressive selection of large-aperture professional L-series primes as well as zoom lenses, macro, Tilt-Shift and Fisheye optics. The Canon EOS-1D Mark IV allows for three video recording resolutions – 1080p Full HD and 720p HD in a 16:9 aspect ratio and Standard Definition (SD) in a 4:3 aspect ratio. The camera will record Full HD at 1920 x 1080 in selectable frame rates of 24p (23.976), 25p, or 30p (29.97); and 720p HD or SD video recording at either 50p or 60p (59.94). SD video can be recorded in either NTSC or PAL standards. Sound is recorded either through the internal monaural microphone or via optional external microphones connected to the stereo microphone input. The camera also provides an in-camera video editing function allowing users to remove the start or ending of a video clip directly in the camera to eliminate unwanted footage and speed up post-production.

I don't intend to purchase one but, even so, it is exciting to see technology pushing forward and actually making it to market.

Notice they did not add additional frame rates to the 720p mode. Looks like we won't be seeing any in the 7D anytime soon either. Not that we would want to with the poor 720p performance.

I doubt I'll get one, to many other priorities right now. Unless the street price for the body is $2500, highly doubt it though.

Gh1 or 7D is fine for $1500ish but to spend $5k on a dslr for video is not on my list, I'm not a big stills guy either.

In Vincent's video I see the same Moire etc. I'll wait until raw footage shows up, but my 7D's and MKii stay.

They're definitely covering all their basis'. Now they have an HDSLR camera offering with full frame, 1.3 crop, and 1.6 crop sensors. Oh the options!

Yup. Although the lowlight performance is very enticing I must say. It's definitely no deal sealer for me. Thank goodness.

Wait until Magic Lantern is ported to the 7D. At that point we should be able to create some sort of digital low pass filter that will help to alleviate the aliasing in the 720p mode.

I'm sure the low light is very nice, they did remove noise from it and color correct it in post. Kinda disspointing but we will see more video in the future, 7D and GH1's release were more exciting to me.

This cam is also bigger than a 7D, also defeats the purpose on why I'd want one.

It's all good. I'm glad they showed us. Saved me some time and money.

Check out the pro lost blog - bummer

Haven't been posting for a long time (I leave that up to Barlow Elton).

Such a great guy.

Read 'em and weep......

It's seem to be an "expensive" "fast" 7D, that can see in the dark.

Not much else.

Basically, it has the exact same video capabilities as the 7D, with a slightly better image (due to the better sensor) and less crop (but still not full frame), all at three times the price of the 7D.

Pretty worthless, IMO, unless you're buying it for stills or if you just have more money than you know how to spend...

I think this is funny.

So what if it was corrected and denoised? This is how most of the images you see are processed and presented to you. I'm glad there is a well thought out, edited, professionally post handled example of what you can get out of the camera. God knows there are plenty of uncorrected vignettes set to some indie song out there to make your eyes bleed.

Man, unless you really need the extra 2 fps from the 1D Mark IV, the APS-H sensor, the additional AF points, and the insanely high (and most likely insanely noisey) high ISO sensitivity, I really can't see justifying the $3200 more you would have to spend for it. Can you say pro sports photographer?
