We've got more Canon C500 Mark II cameras arriving.

Let us know if you are in the market.

It is surprising how slowly the C500 MKII release has been. I was planning on buying one of these EU-V2, but my C500 is currently back at Canon for a repair. So far, it has been about a month since I shipped it back and and I'm getting the sinking feeling it might be a good long time until I see it again. First Canon shut down the California facility. Now they shut down the New Jersey facility and are shipping the equipment to Virginia for repair. I can't imagine that Virginia can hold out for more than another day before it shuts down. The ironic part of this situation is that I am leasing the camera as part of the 24 month deal and it has been with Canon longer than I've actually had it in hand. At this point, I'm wondering if it would be best to just cancel the lease and eat the cost.

Tough call, weird times. If it was me, and I wasn't generating income from a leased new piece of gear, I would cancel and start over once life returns to "normal". All of the rules are out the window as far as work right now, it may be months before we can actually drive somewhere to work with clients or to shoot, other than solo.

Any ideas I've had re moving to new kit of any kind has been well and truly kiboshed. Until some degree of normality returns to the world I'll stick with what I've got. Though I do notice if you are after a second hand camera check out FS7s and C300 Mk II's on eBay. FS7's starting in the $3K region with quite a few in the $4K range. Buyers market developing?

If I was a betting man, I would wait a month or two to start bidding. The time to buy is when all of the rental and production companies decide to throw in the towel.

In India we are all in a 21 day national lockdown. Before that for a few days it was a lockdown by the State. I was to start a major project and it was to be coproduction. The partner dropped off. So it is now off. I was to shoot a low budget feature and that too got cancelled. The economy is going to be in a tailspin. So buying a C500 II is now officially postponed. No gear purchase howsoever lucrative the deal may be. This is the time to sit on cash.

Trying to complete my documentary. There was a last big interview to be shot but just shelved it and doing the edit so that this lockdown period is utilised well.

Good luck, Indiawilds. Just reading about the reaction in India earlier in the week was stressful.

In all seriousness, I watch eBay for deals on lighting and grip equipment. I buy cameras and more expensive purchases from places like TMS because they are really helpful with customer service. Right now, I’m not seeing any massive dumping on eBay and prices haven’t plummeted. People are still hopeful that things get back to normal.

Re Canon Leasing....FWIW. I called the other day and they are happy to defer payments due to the current global pandemic. They offered a 30-day pause with a review after that to set up something longer based on the situation then. I have to say, as leasing companies go, Canon has always been extremely easy to work with in the past and I'm quite happy with how they responded given what we're all looking at going forward.

I feel bad for you guys, too. Talked to one of my good friends/sales reps who is over their office and they had to take a pay cut, but at least they still have a job.

A friend of a friend is a regional manager for an auto parts distributor. He has six outside salespeople under his command. All are furloughed but are allowed to keep their company cars for the time being. However, the company is "redistricting" and most of the six will be let go. Two will be kept, with bigger areas to cover.
