C100: Canon C100 Mark II Announced 60P, New VF, & New OLED Panel Texas Media Systems

Yeah, hopefully that's the case. I'll try to get him to go back and check if it shows up in his edit.

Yeah, let me know. I can't imagine it's something serious with the camera line. I've seen all sorts of oddities on renders and encoding/uploading. Hopefully that's where the weirdness is. Especially since we're getting ready to purchase this thing. :)

Watch this one at 1:02. There's an artifact for one frame. It's him doing a stand up. But for one frame, it shows the dog in the snow. And there's tearing at the top of the dog frame where it still shows a little of him. So that couldn't be a mistake in editing. It would have to be in camera. Do you all think there could be an issue with the camera? I posted a comment on the video about it. Video and screenshot below.

He responded and said that it was in his original footage. This has me a little concerned..

"Well … that was my first problem … its in the original footage … but I don't know maybe a too slow SD Card or anything else … must check this out … "

Well that's a little disheartening. Still getting it? I can't imaging it would be a huge issue.

I've pulled up a couple of other videos shot with it, and they look good and didn't show anything like that. I've left comments on them. I also can't imagine there being a big issue. But I wouldn't mind hearing from half a dozen people who already have it that it's all good. Yeah, I'm still planning to get it.

The only time I would ever see that amount of moire from the C100 is when I'm editing 1/4 res in Premiere. That can do it.

I'm pretty skeptical about that moire test video. I have shot lots of fine patterns with the C100 M1 and I have never seen moire like that.

While I agree that it really is an untypical amount of moiré, in this case I personally believe that the fabric over the window hits the exact bullseye for when moiré shows up (detail frequency).

I almost never saw moiré with the C100, but shooting an aircraft simulator once with a projected image on a half-dome, I saw similar amounts. While aliasing will show up in 1 field editing, Moiré won't. It's a record-time thing.

EDIT: while I still don't think 1 field editing can provoke this, scaling the video might. But I am assuming we are looking at 100% crops. Who knows. I agree that it is more that I have seen in my own material.

One possible explanation is that this is his home/office. Maybe he saw some moiré when shooting there once, and he knows how to place the camera to trigger it? He obviously made the video specifically to show us this difference, so it's a deliberate setup.

Offtopic, but I'm curious: if you edit in 1/4 res and export, surely, PP goes back to full res original files for output?

Or do you mean that you see the moiré in the program/record monitor within PP itself?

Ah...good question. Only in the monitor itself. You are correct that he would need to export this video with different settings. So if creating this moire video by viewing in 1/4 res...he would have to share this video via a screen sharing application...not export. So for that, your right, it doesn't make much sense that viewing in 1/4 res would cause that amount of moire in this video.

Aside from setting up the perfect shot to show moire, is this test a valid one assuming the MKII was set up the same way? This does seem to show a difference between the two cameras, which seems to be the point of the video. If I were looking to test moire, I would try and find the most absolute worse example I could find, and it seems like he did.... LOL!

Quite frankly moire on the C100 is something I never think about or have ever seen, but I'm not a pro like most of you guys.

Exactly. I also know one place at my home where I can make similar moire (special distance from a sofa with raster), but in real life and shooting I never saw this with C100.
Moire is not a problem of the C100.

That video just makes me even more excited to see that first peek of the C300M2. That type of promo...in 4K...would be fantastic.

Yeah, my purchase should have went through on the 31st, but now won't happen until Monday. :/ I'm not sure if that would've been in time for the Jan. 2nd ship date, any way. Waiting to see if I get these jobs that I've bid for this month. Might have to rent a C100 if so. Hopefully they'll be able to ship more before the end of the month. The kit options do sound pretty good, so if I have to wait, either way, I might go with one of them.

Update: Just spoke with TMS. They do still have units available from the first order. They just didn't all get shipped to them from Canon yet. They think they will get those in about a week.
