C100: Canon C100 Mark II Announced 60P, New VF, & New OLED Panel Texas Media Systems

Yes, there are some color differences but also a lot of improvement.

Quick push autofocus and a bigger picture at EVF are both great for framing, better ergonomy and a very quick type of work.
The bigger EVF let you far better assessing the scene in your mind, it is different thinking, framing and compositing.

The noise is much better at wdr gamma and video signal is much more clean on waveform monitor (for example if you see a test chart).

So it will be hard decision about purchase an upgrade, would be nice to see that Canon will improve color accuracy between C100 and C100 markII.

edit: I saw some pictures from A7s last week and there is a very visible rolling shutter skew effect, so I'm still very happy with C100, its colors, lowlight, NDs or ergonomy.

Judging by the stills above, the mark II doesn't look too cool, the mark I looks too warm. Specifically the box of tea, mark II looks properly white balanced, the mark I looks like an orange fest.

The GH3 had a markedly warmer image than the GH4 when shot at the same WB, so once I set the GH4 to compensate for that they both matched (with a 300K difference). I think it's like ISOs where cameras can have different exposures for the same value, WB too. Not too irritating but a pain when matching two cameras for one shoot. Wish everything was properly standardized!

Also I always though the Mk I was a bit too warm compared to other cameras.

Totally agree for the box of tea; sea and sky also looks more accurate on the MKII.
But both pictures with a person in it (which can happen occasionally:) ) and tungsten lighting seems really off, in my opinion.

i know about all the other features and they very attractive for me as I was/am ready to make the jump.
But having an accurate picture, with regular settings, out of the sensor is I think more important than any feature...

hope this kind of thing can be resolved with firmware update.

Saying that, I think I remember that the C100 MKI in its first steps had a slight blue tint in the cinema PP that you had to correct using for example cowpunks profiles from this very forum, but at some point they corrected it and everyone is now using the standard cinema profile ! Right ?

of course I'm ok with just setting my camera off a few K, but I think it is a bit annoying when you have to shoot fast to remember to always shift what you would think the proper white balance is ; and also annoyed with the fact that with that much money spent I just can't have a correct image.

Exactly. Color Matrix changes at the first step and a firmware update in a future can solve these little color inaccuracies (both are better than kelvins shift). We also need to see more pictures from the C100 mark II.

I also think that C100 (mark I) is not too warm in a real day pictures, I made a little warmer profile with cine1 gamma by using normal4 color matrix (and -4 color gain at this case). I like these pictures, they look wonderful. There is C100 (+ GH2 at a castle as the second camera), except red rooms at start all other pictures are nice:

I think the colors on the MK2 are just fine! Did a few quick shots by the river today. Was not dissapointed at all!

Thanks for the test footage. Looks nice indeed. Like I said I'm more afraid of interior shots, with artificial lighting ...would you have some shots in this kind of situation ?

I don't have any interior test footage yet but shortly I'm sure.

Thanks Terry,

James, you're further enforcing my desire to invest in the CN-E glass!

Haha sorry?.....

They are amazing lenses!!! I absolutely love mine and everyone who has used them feels the same. Now keep in mind that I'm not an editor or a colorist so I could very well have ruined the look of the lenses with my grading on this short test clip (I usually hand over the footage to someone else so my knowledge on editing and colours is very limited....).

They incredibly sharp, well controlled flaring, smooth bokeh and the mechanical aspect of the lenses is very organic (CP2's feel very dry but the Canon's feel very fluid-like). I would recommend them if you can afford them! I have the 24-35-50-85. I just wish Canon made a wide angle lens in the aperture range...

Here's a new video from Canon USA about the C100 Mark II featuring a company with the best name ever:

I've got the same super-speed CN-E kit and couldn't agree more!

Here's some footage shot inside under mixed controlled lighting and practical lighting. They are very short clips as this is a Pilot and cannot be released. (audio is from in camera) Also please note that Vimeo compresses the crap out of the footage and it looks much much better on my computer.

Wow I just discovered in this last video that when you use 35mbps MP4 or 28mbps avchd (which were both on of the new features I was happy about, better bit rate !) are only in 50/60p ? This is odd !

id like to take advantage of those better bitrates while shooting 25p! (99% of the time !)
