C100: Canon C100 Mark II Announced 60P, New VF, & New OLED Panel Texas Media Systems

I'm enjoying this thread.... that is up until you guys bring up the iPhone. That's usually a thread killer...... but I hope not.

I usually like JB's tests. When its a Sony camera he tests. This looks like a Sony camera.
I don´t know, WDR and FC Kodak conversion, things I use on a regular basis, but this images look clean and sterile, sth most people would call "videoish" and not like what I´m used to from my C100v1.
That said, I'm sure there was great emphasize on reproducing the colors of the paintings 100% correctly and it didn´t look bad.
But again: More like a standard out of the box Sony, than a film converted C100.
JB, I know you're on DVXuser, so please take no offense, maybe you could explain your post workflow?

There was one noise comparison at 20k ISO. Lower compression H264 available, too.

Wonder if that shot was supplied by Canon or if it's the only scenario where you can see a noticeable difference? Personally, I've never shot at 20k ISO and don't plan to anytime soon so it doesn't tell me much about real world application for myself.

I would like to see a side by side comparison, both C100 MKI and MKII on the same tripod, same lens, same subject. We already know about the cool new features, what we really want to know is has Canon improved the basic image significantly.

I imagine there won't be a massive difference in image at all but extreme ISO's. The increased bit rate is nice but I imagine its just as I didn't seem much difference between the AVCHD and DNX/ProRes from the blade under most circumstances.

The C100Mk1 has a great image anyway so really how much better of an 8bit HD image could there be? If it was a large step forward I would guess Canon would be putting out samples to sell the new model or convince current users to upgrade. 60p HD & EVF upgrade are the two things that would interest me about the Mk2.

Exactly. Neither of those shots would be acceptable for anything I shoot, and I suspect most people would be the same. Does the better noise quality difference scale down to the lower ISO's? Maybe, but I think there's a reason they didn't show it to us.

I bet the difference in the image is quite minimal and to most viewers negligble, but that's not so bad as the C100 image is fantastic anyway. Canon does claim improved colour fedility, resolution and less aliasing, and better lowligh performance. I bet the first three will be very hard to spot, but what we can see in Nino's video the lowlight performance is quite improved. The original C100 starts exhibting colour blotchy noise from 20.000 so I never felt comfortable pushing it that high, but the mk II seems cleaner very usable with a nice filmic grain pattern, similar to an a7s in the ability to shoot at 20.000. Would you rate it one stop improvement at 20.000 ISO based on Leitner's test? ISO performance will be likely similarly improved across all ISOs.

I wish he would have said what picture profile he used for that 20000 ISO test. In my experience, that can have a huge impact on noise levels.

Yea, this announcement got me really excited. Not because I plan on upgrading my c100 but because it hints at a new C300 mark II around the corner. It's sure to be a great camera...expensive,yes, ....but I'll probaby jump on it.

very excited for this, they just should have done this in the beginning. This is still a no go for me, just because of all the other options (GH4,A7s, used f3, used 1DC, used scarlet (i know i know), FS7, used C100 (hehe), but this is finally something I would have liked to have had a couple years ago. 60p max has always been good enough for me. But by the time this comes down to the round $5k range, I will have found something else.

Still kind of tempted by them, since there really isn't much that looks any better for the price. But I am hoping to get into a more pro body for freelance work again, so I probably won't be getting something with such a low bitrate.

Though leasing one of these would be a cheap way to have a personal practice camera or back up for fairly cheap.

Best visual comparison I have seen. Looks like buttons themselves were improved as well. Please post if some packages get announced.
