Canon A1 $3,499

No go. I ordered first thing yesterday from "1 Stop" and when I got home at 11pm, discovered via email that my credit card's overzealous fraud dept. rejected the transaction. I got NO calls from either entity all day.

After looking at the total cost from "1 Stop", I re-thought the whole thing (I had to pay sales tax which the sales guy neglected to add when I asked him the total) and called Beach Camera instead.

This was AFTER calling buydig.com and being put on holds for 15 minutes.

My total from Beach Camera with a 4 year Mack warranty and next morning FedEx delivery is $4,431.

Good luck finding it for less than $4K. "1 Stop" is probably a safe bet though.

"I just ordered my new A1 from www.zgc.com , Christine was fantastic to deal with and the price was as was the price."

I have dealt with zgc before and they are awesome. The price they list for the A1 is exactly the same as everyone elses, $4K.

The A1 I ordered yesterday from Christine at www.zgc.com, went out today, Fed-Ex says I will have it tomorrow. She really is great to deal with. Actually her email is

chris "at" zgc.com

It is worth getting a quote from her before messing around with the Brooklyn gray market shops. Besides, it is these reputable companies that sponsor these forums which allow us to share information. I know for a fact that my project would never happen without these boards. So regardless of the "grey market " issues, I will gladly pay closer to retail when I explain that I called them to purchase because of their sponsorship of the forums. The forums that make any of this possible for me.

That is just my two cents.... now I get to go back to watching the clock waiting for tomorrow and the Fed Ex truck

I just ordered the A1 from 1stop for $3,499.

They seemed a little dismayed that I did not want a case, extra batteries, or an extended warranty--so we'll see what happens.

They also required an additional CC verification wherein I was told to email them a letter stating I authorized the charges.

Either they ship it, or they don't. We'll see.

Thanks for the heads up on the price.

darn I got my last week for 3800 had to take it back the view finder wouldnt come on when i closed the lcd screen and sometimes the view finder would stay lite when the lcd was open.. the 400 bucks i could have saved would buy lots of beer. lol

Why is no one going with Coffee's retailer? He got his camera, got his warranty, and everything. Did I miss something?

A couple of people have but not everyone is going to go to the "good deal" locations. Some people are willing to chalk up the extra couple of hundered dollars for the peace of mind.

I wouldn't worry about it, even B&H has pages of complaints on sites like resellers

Thanks again, Coffee.

My camera shipped for $3518, and I expect it next Wednesday. Now all I need is to do is receive it and make sure the box is sealed! (And that it's a USA version as promised.)

All in all the transaction with 1stop was pretty easy, so far.

By the way, what kind of tapes are you running through your A1?

no problem dude, glad I could relay a good and legit deal to someone.

I'm only using the HD tape that they send with the camera for now then on with the panasonic MQ tapes.

On, also, none of the boxes come officially sealed from Canon. I thought there was a problem with mine until I read around here that they're not sealed.

I'd bet a dollar that Panasonic is going to see a rise in MQ tape sales coinciding with the XH A1 release...

I've already gone through 3 of the 10 I ordered.
