Canon A1 $3,499

Thanks for the info coffee. I have a few questions:

One, do they sale a US warranty (2 years+) with the camera and if so how much?

When you get the camera do you think you can post on this thread all the items you received with the camera? Can you make sure everything seems to be un-opened and the paper work/cds are not photocopies or fakes.

Who did you talk to on the phone at 1stopcamera? anyone you recommend?

Last, i imagine since you ordered the camera over the phone that you had to give them all your credit info. Did you have any problems with this?

Thanks for the info coffee. I'm surprised that an authorized dealer would be giving the camera for below set price. Any other info you could post would be helpful that you could post would be helpful.

Do you have a direct link? I could not find the A1 there? Do you know if they ship internationally?

Yes they offered I think a 2 and 4 year warranty and the 4 year was under $300.

When you get the camera do you think you can post on this thread all the items you received with the camera? No problem

Who did you talk to on the phone at 1stopcamera? anyone you recommend? I talked to a guy named Pete

"The camera isn't listed on their site so I called them directly to order."

Wow, resellerratings is not flattering to them either. Their reviews make it sounds like they run just like the bait 'n' switch shops. But they are definitely an authorized Canon dealer, so... I dunno. You should get exactly what you ordered, factory-sealed, US-certified goods because they are an authorized US dealer. Don't put up with anything less. And if you have any problems whatsoever, take it up with Canon too, because Canon authorized them.

Yeah, it shouldn't be a Grey market cam, but the rumor-mill turned on B and H (I think it was) about Grey Market HVX's.

Just make sure your serious is legit, dude!

wow, if I would of read all of those reviews before i made my purchase i certainly would of walked away from them.

we'll have to see though. the camera is in route to my house for drop off today. my wife is there and i told her to hold onto the UPS guy (even if u had to flash him) and open the box in front of him to have a neutral witness just in case of any bs.

I'll let you guys how everything goes.

Also, how do I validate that this camera is legit? Do I call Canon with the serial number?

Jay

Ok, so I got the camera.

Everything looks like it's here but I'll have to read through the manual to see if a contents section outlines what cables and stuff I should have in the package.

The manual says it's the Canon USA Series owner's manual.

The registration card has both english and what looks like spanish.....

How do I find out if this is legit or grey market though?

Jay

Oh by the way, when I opened the box and took the camera out the first words out of me were: Holy Sh!t..... lol

This thing is seeeeeexy!

As listed on the BH photo site...This is what should be in there.
• Compact Power Adapter
• DC Coupler
• Battery Pack
• Shoulder Strap
• WL-D5000 Wireless Controller
• Adapter Holder
• Component Video Cable
• Stereo Video Cable
• 1-Year Parts and Labor Warranty

In addition it should have one HDV tape from Canon that is white in color packing.

Serial number registration form should have your serial number correspond to what is printed on the box.

PS I got mine from EVS with a DVXuser discount and it was not much more since they are local for me and I would pay to have the piece of mine that they are legit.

He's already found out. It's legit.

Rejoice, please. The A1 came in at 3500 like some people predicted, baby.

yeah everything checked out and the camera is legit and now registered

jade, what's the problem if canon finds out?

I'm thinking Canon might not want dealers to sell their new cameras at such a discounted price so soon. Canon was very funny about that with the H1. They literally demanded that dealers charge full price for quite some time or they would pull the license from them. Or so I have been told.

Nobody knows for sure (until we're told) that this is going to be the same way.

Maybe everyone's assuming after the H1 thing that the A1 had to be sold at 3999? Maybe I'm just hoping that just in case I sell my HVX to get an A1?

I'm hoping to pull enough cash together for the A1 in about a month. Just hope that the store doesn't change the price by then.

can i ask you why you want to sell your hvx and buy another cam? is it because of the noise? low light results?

Smithy:

If you don't mind me asking what did you pay for the Canon XH A1 at EVS with the DVX discount (I heard the dvxuser discount was 10%)? As well, who did you speak to? Feel free to send me a private message if you would prefer that. For me they are also local and i would be willing to pick up the camera if it was a significant discount.

Thank you
