Canon 70d Has Aliasing Moire

I don't know if that's a good measurement. I know a Loy of canon users that didn't know about different picture profiles. I have 3 canon myself and I didn't download flaat picture profiles.

Someone wasn't a statistics major in school. :)
Ever read those studies that show what percentage of computer users are using what browser, OS, and platform (mobile vs desktop)? They know that by monitoring traffic to a site. Usually its a site that I haven't heard of or have ever visited, not has anyone I know personally. But that doesn't change the fact that some traffic DOES go there, and that little slice of information can speak volumes.

It wouldn't mean anything if there was some specific reason for people not downloading Flaat anymore, different from them not buying Canon DSLRs anymore. Like, if everybody was using the new canon x profile. I doubt that's the case, since you'd also need something to explain why this forum is so quiet while the BMC forum is on overdrive.

Also, if you want a measurable indicator...
Daily downloads of Flaat suite of picture styles:
may 2013:80 canon, 35 nikon
oct 2013: 35 canon, 30 nikon

The world is moving really, really fast, away from Canon DSLRs.

Perhaps, but could it be that the people who wanted that picture profile already have it and are just out there shooting with their Canon DSLRs?
There's definitely more options out there that work well these days and that's a good thing, but it also doesn't necessarily mean that people are dumping their DSLRs. Growth in sales is a different metric than user base. I suspect that the DSLR user base is still huge, just more mature and already equipped. The growth may be there in the other platforms, but it will be a while before they eclipse the existing Canon DSLR user base.
I'm still seeing a ton of Canon DSLRs out there shooting video and I think I've seen one BMCC in the wild.

So. With that logic, fewer downloading of flaat picture profile and less movement here means less people using canon. I wonder how that equate to at other canons forums. Yes, there isn't much talk here but if you venture to all the other forums related to canon photography, you will see a bunch. Especially recently prices drop with canon DSLRs.

I do believe not many talked flaat picture profile recently simply due to not a whole lot about it and there are way too many picture profiles, many didn't even know that you can add new profiles into the camera. I showed it to 3 canon users lately that has been using their DSLRs for a year or so... They were amazed... Lol and the first time I read about flaat was here then I found out about other profiles like vision color's cine, marvel, technicolor's and others. After comparing them, I opted not to download flaat. And yet I'm a canon user.

My point is, the decrease of download may be due to less marketing or less people talk about it than it's a measurement of more people moving away from it. And same goes for this forum.

I didn't say it means less people using Canon. I said it means less people buying Canon. People who know their camera and have it set the way they want, use it, they don't need to download anything again or ask questions online. New users do. And Canon seems to have less and less of those, whereas Nikon is still small but hasn't slowed down, and BlackMagic seems to be the new star in the budget video market.
This is important because Canon only gets money from you when you buy new gear. If you use it for a year or ten, I don't think they care too much.

And yes, I'm very aware that video is a very small market compared to stills.
On a recent vacation, I tried to keep count of how many people I saw with a DSLR, with a DSLR with a good lens, and with a DSLR with a lens bag. I expected to find most photogs using only the kit lens, and video shooters carrying a bag. In broad terms, that turned out to be the case, but there were so many more photogs that even if you only take into account people carrying a lens bag, video was at most 20% of what I saw.

I still don't feel it is measuring less people are buying canon. It's almost saying that if your video on YouTube isn't attracting more than 2,000 views that means YouTube is loosing viewers.

eBay recently has a seller for the 300 new canon 5d3 at $2500 each, it was sold out within a week and then the dropped prices on 6d and 70d postings is what I have been seeing on many forums and blog websites... Unless the data is coming from sales statistic, it is really not a quantifying measurement that because less people visiting a picture profile site means people are staying away (buying) from canon...

Most online posting about the 70D is all about its photography usage and not very much talks about the video functionality, on facebook there are 3 70D pages with thousands of like and increasing, accessories pages for tripod, tascam etc, has pics of accessories with canon cameras (6d, 70d) etc., a few vimeo accounts created for new canon cameras, several bloggers reviewing it with many viewers buying it etc. many bloggers doing comparison with nikon and lumix and eventually ending with recommending the 70d as a general all purpose camera or for video users that still need stills... If you add all the data from all these sites, I am pretty sure you wouldn't see a decrease of purchasing... But still I wouldn't consider that as a logical analysis of sales, but I think combining the amount of new purchases collective data from all these sites, the result may be more valid than from a picture profile download count.

And of course, canon 70d was released at end of September so still a lot are wondering if this is a good camera or not, so sales has just started. But as of now, there are far more posting, reviews and such compared to many other camera items that I have seen/read (except for bmpcc or the bmcc). Nikon just announced the entry level camera capable of 60p maybe it will drive up sales for them. I think it is still too early to say people are buying less canon based on a website download count.

And to add into the equation, people are now upgrading their 50d or t2i to 60d or 6d and many are saving for the new 7d2 slated for q2 release in 2014. Which means prices will drop again. Currently in photography classes, most teachers are promoting Canon than Nikon (information read online and from contacts). Still not an exact quantifying statistic but enough to say there are more data collected for my thinking. :)

Yes, I also said video is a small market compared to photogs, so maybe Canon doesn't care at all. But if they want my money they will have to care, because there are other options in the market.

Also, however small it is, I think it is pretty dumb by Canon to let it go, given how tightly gripped they had this market a couple of years ago.

And regarding the data I provided, I know it's a very small part of the picture, but it is what I can provide, and I think it is relevant.

This is the only way to get a clean image with this camera, I bought it and test it, It does continous focus without problem

Holy sh!t, did you stand in the vortex of all moire and aliasing? The before imagine is crazy bad. The after look remarkably better! Thanks for sharing!!

it is a marketing video though so take it with a grain of salt, don't think i've ever seen moire that bad from any canons ive used.. maybe it was shot in 720?

.. maybe it was shot in 720?

This!
I have never seen that much Moire on another Canon crop sensor dslr, except maybe in rare occasions while shooting 720 with extreme patterns present in the frame.
Even if I haven't tested the 70d myself, I tend to believe that this marketing video is misleading.
