Canon 70d Has Aliasing Moire

the moire is really bad. I did a bunch of test shots at work. One co-worker's shirt was lit up like christmas tree. It is the worst moire that I have seen on an slr.

The aliasing was also very noticeable throughout the image on hair, glasses, etc. To me eye, it is worse than the 7d and Rebels.

It is sad, because the autofocus is remarkable and truly exciting. I really wanted this to be usable for professional application, but if this is the case, there is no way I could do that.

Not sure.
I'm not seeing what you are stating about moire being worse than a t5i or 7D. If anything, its on par or the the same level as the 7D.

Now I'm NOT saying it's moire free. Moire is there, but it's not Canon Rebel levels. So far, if you got by shooting on the 7D for all these years I would say to expect the same image with better ISO performance.

were you shooting 720 maybe? side by sides all seem to show moire is identical to rebels/7d etc

+1. A man and his cameras, makin dough! Not worried about all the hype and just gets his job done and in the can and to the bank!
^ let us remember this. big plus 1.

But also, let us not forget, that it would be awesome if non-pros, people that do not make money, could have better image quality too. When making money, the image only has to be good enough, but when it is your kids or family moments, better is always better. So, I really hope the 70d, the GH4~, etc just keep getting better.

Are those stills low quality, or have I forgotten how soft the Canon DSLRS are?
Those are frame grabs, compressed and re-compressed. There is a link to the exports on the other thread where I discuss my thoughts on the 70D. I will say that the 70D is the 7D with a dual layer sensor and a bit better iso performance. If one is to expect BMC or C300 detail from a prosumer class stills camera they are wishing and wishing well. Gh3 is about as detailed as it gets. And even that camera has its issues. Unlock the 70D with ML raw and things could be rather interesting.

Alright good. I'm probably going to pick one up soon, for similar uses that you're using it for.

And I don't think you'll be sorry one bit. The good thing is knowing that going forward Canon might feature this in all their cameras to be released. You can always turn off AF. But you can't turn it on if its not there.

Anyway, what i wanted to say is Felipe, dont get too caught up with the moire, and please dont take offence but looking at your videos from your vimeo page it seems any limitations of the technology may be a little ahead of what you need to worry about, I would honestly spend some time improving your skills with what you have, or with the 70d or any other DSLR. For example, friendly suggestion would be try not to zoom in every shot, it is quite a hallmark of amateur shooters.

Don't see any zoom , here I use it when I need it , Not shaky bet your PC is old, suggest you to buy a new generation PC, Here some shots with a T4i, that show not moire after, changing angles, distance and other fixes that you still have to do with the 70D, That is why not so happy with the 70D.

LOL. Now he's saying the t4i is better than the 70D! What are you snorting over there in Columbia? Not much moire to be had in a coca leaf.

I got you, your brain is severely damaged by snorting.I'm sorry took me a while to understand .
Let me spell you , with the 70D you spend more money and get the same, if you know how to use a camera. in other words , you are wasting money.
So Dusty Dusty more money for the same result is not good. not good.
Do you have any of your footage to see ?

Yeah, over in this thread I matched it to my (according to you) outdated C100. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?313187-70D-and-my-thoughts-on-it-Samples Does your T4i have the AF the 70D packs? I think not. Is your T4i weather sealed? I think not. Can your T4i shoot 7 frame per second in stills mode? I think not. Does your T4i have the stills AF system of the 70D? I think not. Does your T4i have Wifi built in? Probably not. Much much more of a camera the 70d is. They Dual pixel AF alone is worth the money over the T4i.

Both have same Moire. the rest is not important, probably the 80 Mbs codec, but you get that with Magic Lantern, Dusty I'm not defending a camera model, I'm protesting Canon to
release a camera with the same problem than cameras 5 years old is Moire aliasing you can deal with any thing but not with that.
In fact this is a very long thread already. Really hope next models from Canon solve this problem, your C100 is 24 mbs. Right ? so no I need a camera like the 70d but without Moire aliasing.
and this is it I'm gone, and Dusty from all places I lived in USA California was the greatest , so no personal just tools. and Dusty don't do that is not good for your health.

Don't confuse the C100 24mbs AVCHD with any HDslr codec. The C100's implementation of the AVCHD is FAR superior to anything in ANY HDslr. It's why you hear people say they really can't see much of a difference when they use an external recorder to the in camera codec of the AVCHD. The C100 AVCHD is surprisingly very robust. The only real reason I would use an external recorder on the C100 is for green screen or if a client asked for a higher bit rate. I would put the C100's 24mbps up against an HDSLRs 90mbps codec any day!

True that Canon's H.264 can't compete with AVCHD at the same bitrate. But when you say "any DSLR", are you also including ones that DO record to AVCHD natively?
Because I've seen amazing things out of the GH2's AVCHD even with minor hacks. But hey, I don't want to derail this conversation any more than it already is. Just saying- your statement is true especially if comparing to other Canon DSLRs, but not necessarily "any DSLR" out there IMO.

Well, technically the Gh2/3 is not a DSLR. SLR=single lens reflex. But you have to hack the Gh2 to get that higher bit rate. And even then the banding is not any better. The C100 handles banding very well. Then, I'll put the C100's detail and resolution abilities with stock AVCHD against any Gh2/3 any day. I've had both the Gh2 and 3. I feel the Gh3 stock is better than the Gh2 with most hacks.
And finally, The C100 packs all that you need to film nearly any situation with its built in ND, XLR, peaking, waveform, etc. You can also record externally with a C100. The Gh3 still can't record out of HDMi. I like the Gh3, but the C100 is just a whole different class of camera.

5dmarkIII has been out for a long time. If you don't have cash for it, then deal with moire or get a smaller sensor.

Da. Problem solved.

Probably your brain just like Dusty is severely damaged, I don't want the shallow depth of field of Mark III. I want APS-C ( SUPER 35 ) Again look at this Nikon way better than 70D even the Lumix G6 has much better image than 70D just like C100, and Bye, Bye. I have seen that a lot of people only want to justify why to remain with Canon and not solve the Moire Problem with the multiple options the market is offering.
