1DC: Canon 1DX Mark II - any info / news?

There are rumors of a Canon new product announcement coming in mid-August. What those products are is anyone's guess at this point, however. Some say it could be 1D X2, as it should be unveiled before 5D MK IV or 6D MKII. I say it's extremely unlikely to be anything capable of cannibalizing the C300 MK II sales.

Apparently the 1dx just dropped $700 today. This is rumored to be on point to an announcement of the 1dxii in mid August. Hurry up Canon! The A7rii is look' pretty great. Let's see what you've been cooking up.

A7RII should be in theory in the 5D MK IV weight class ... so, naturally, Canon will protect A7RII and announce a $7,000 cam!

Realistically, there's a lot of maneuvering room between the 1D X MKII and C300 MKII in terms of codecs, recording bit rate and even a crop.

PS. It's rumored to have a 24 MPX sensor, so a UHD crop might be fairly severe unless the image is oversampled.

Sony A7RII and 1DX/(rumored)1DXmkII aren't even in the same ballpark. The A7 may be a "still camera", but Canon 1D's are intended to be used by professional still photographers day-in and day-out shooting sports and other demanding "photojournalistic" type uses. Trying to draw parallels or comparisons is a completely academic/internet message board exercise.

My take, Canon will not make the 1D line their video animal.

The next 1D will arrive before the 5D, and will be a top-end sports camera for professional photography, just as the 1D always was the choice for the professional sports industry. I expect 1DX class video quality, 1080p maybe 60p maximum.

And ''if'' Canon will decide to attack the video market again, it would be with a 5D, either an all-in-one 5D MK IV with 4K resolution, or a dedicated 5Dc with a low pixel count,

Howevah --- a lot of people nowadays will take 5Dr for the studio work over 1D X. One has the low light and FPS advantage. The other shreds it on resolution. Canon is promising a lot of models, each with a unique feature set. So far, they have produced the lineup they were hinting at but separating 1DX MK II and 1D C MK II would require a lot of juggling on their part. That doesn't mean it's impossible at ~ $6,500 and $10,000, let's say.

C300II and 1DC have different user group, People who need to use a C300II will not want to use a DLSR type body.
and because I need a DSLR looking body I will not buy a C300II is the same price as the current 2yr 1DC, because of its form factor.

Would not mind if they give me a 4.6K crop on the new 1DXII

Agreed.. Most users on this forum have never held nor operated a 1D series body and so they do not understand. It is designed SPECIFICALLY to auto focus under pretty much any condition in any environment, anything else is a cherry on top. The 1D line sold very well long before video became the norm for DSLR's and will continue to sell long after(even without 4k). In my opinion, I don't see them combining their best AF tech with video again. At most you would get a 5d mk IV with a few flavors of 4k but nothing to write home about.

If you want all the bells and whistles, the c300 mk II is the only way to go.

Nikon D5 is alleged to have 4K, when it comes out, and a lot of users will want all the 1D X bells and whistles and 4K ... if they can get it in the same price range. And, in the $6,000-$8,000 territory, 4K should be assumed anyway, as there are $600 system cameras with it.

I have shot in rain, hailstorm, dust storm with 1D series cameras mated to L series lenses. Never had any problem. If your work doesn't demand such robust weather sealing, highest level of autofocus, high speed photography and extremely low ISO, then buying 1D series is overkill.

There is a lot of hate for Canon in the internet boards. Canon has the right to produce products as it thinks is right. If someone doesn't like then better not to buy. No point in bitching.

We are earning our livelihood from filming. As a business, we differentiate our offerings. Canon too has the right to differentiate its offerings. So why bash up canon?

1DX mkII. Not gonna happen.

The 1DC mkII will certainly not gonna happen, but the 1DX mkII is just around the corner.

[oops, I saw Run&Gun's correction too late -- as he actually meant to say 1DC, and not 1DX]

So, there was supposed to be sort of a major Canon announcement on the 14th. Which came and went without a peep.

Canon Expo is in New York the second week of September. Maybe something then.

haha 1DC's AF is hell in liveview mode, better than the 5D's but still hell.

The AF on C300II is probably the same one they have on the 70D, you will realise if Canon is able to implement on the new 1D series the same kind of follow focus speed and accuracy in Live view, I will no need to stick a a LX100 or a 4k handy-cam on the hot-shoe of my 1DC as backup.

As I have always said before, the form factor of DSLR is most important for my subjects and my shooting operation, even if it cost more then a C500 I still want it in the weather proof 1D form with 4K and good tracking focus.

Many people here own a 1DC, and they bought it not because of its price but it is small robust form factor and dual operation mode.

Also since most newer portable Canon lens are not parfocal a good tracking AF in live view is much needed. On the other hand if they 1D can do 24fps or more in jpg for 20min non-stop I would not mind if it do not do not have 4k.
