1DC: Canon 1DX Mark II - any info / news?

I have heard very little about this release. Some minor rumors. Anyone know any info? I keep hoping that it will be a mini C300 Mark II without audio and ND for 1/2 the price.

I would love to see this camera with 4K, 10 bit, 60P in 1080P, clean HDMI out with less compression, and C-Log 2...and a dream if it had the new AF face detection for all L glass like the C300II. Doesn't need to have ND. Obviously no XLR. If these were the specs and it sat around the $7000, I think many people would jump all over it.

I'm probably dreaming though.

It will probably be around $7,000-$8,000 with 4k and 1080p60 but I would be surprised with anything 10bit on the recording side. For me it is all about the dynamic range. If Canon keeps its head in the sand on this topic then the video folks (and quite a few still folks) will not be excited. Canon usually does not "lead the charge" so to speak so I would not expect the interwebs to be lit on fire. The new Sony already has lit it up anyway...

1DX mkII. Not gonna happen. There are rumors of a "cine" 5D, but the chances that you will see a new 1DX are none-to-none.

I really don't care what they call it. 1dxii or the cine 5d...it's the camera that fits this spot in the market and has this feature set.

I have heard there are 1dx mark II cameras been tested out in the wild. It's all rumor of course.

I feel like pretty much every rumor about Canon is funneled through Canon Rumors first. That site has been talking about a 1DX II for awhile, but I really doubt it is going to be of much use for video after the poor reception of the 1DC.

ReelWorks, I apologize… My reading comprehension skills must be lacking today. You said 1DX MKII. My brain, for some reason, saw 1DC MKII. Yes, I've heard that a new 1DX is coming.

I don't know, the concept of 4k being downsampled to create incredible 1080p has kind of brought the DSLR back to life. Since 4k resolution is already there with DSLRs, all they have to do is add an existing 100mbps 4:2:0 codec and the thing will be fine. If you look at the pocket cameras around now, their 4k video is quite nice. Should be easy with the processing power of the 1DX. Only down to will which is always a concern with Canon though.

There are three fairly exhaustive Canon sites - Rumors, Watch and Fred Miranda (which has a huge section dedicated to Canon).

Off the three, CR seems to break the most news/rumors. And regarding 1D X2, it seems like a 25 MP sensor with similar ergonomics as 1D X. I would speculate on my own that the new camera 4K will be heavily crippled, as not to compete against C300 MK II.

Off other rumors, 5D MK IV (it also could be two slightly different cameras, 5D MK IV and 5D C, a la 5Ds and 5Dr) may be announced somewhere around the late fall/winter 2015-16 and only after 1D X2 is out. If so, then 1D X2 should be unveiled somewhere close to the C300 MK II release, with the chances of these two cameras having similar features being rather minimal.

Canon might surprise us all but, quite often, these surprises aren't entirely positive.

I wouldn't hold my breath too much on another 1dc like camera. I own a 1dc and the image is unlike any other camera i've used, they are deff using some secret sauce in there. However everyone admits that the 1dc was kind of a flop so i dont expect too much in the future, even though it could make sense to do another one canon just go their own way. So Dont hold your breath so you wont be dissapointed, I learned that the hard way.

be happy with what you have.....

As valid of a thought as this is...and I agree and respect this general notion....

its not just about being happy or unhappy with what you have. If you work professionally in this industry for a living....its about forward thinking and looking into the future and understanding how new tech can help materialize your ideas.

I love what I have. Made great decisions along the way. Things can always improve...crafts can always be refined...and gear can always improve. Pushing the envelope on all fronts can push your business into great places. Not just gear, but all aspects of production. Gear is just one element we all love to play with and discuss. :)

The 1D series usually come out around Olympic or World cup, so earliest is this time next year we start to see working prototypes at the events, I guess.

as for the 5D4, is there is a 4 in it is likely to have 4K video, I guess selling at about the same price as the new 5DSR.
I think the question is what quality level of 4K video it will give you.
Honest this have to come out around the same time as the A7SII(Christmas?). Many people have give up buying 5DS and opt for the A7RII instead.

So far, the only real info on canon rumors is that the 1dx will be released before the 5d4. High hopes. I'm just hoping for a solid video offering below the $16k c3002 from canon.

if they wait a year, Canon would have really missed the boat.

Guessing Canon is too busy picking up their jaw off the ground after seeing the specs of the A7RII.. They are getting smashed on all fronts except sports photography, and I'm guessing sony will have a competitive model by years end.. The popularity and market growth of the 7 series is remarkable. Being HEAVILY invested in Canon gear I'm always interested in what's next, but I'm slowly starting to realize that time may have past. My pre-order is in for an A7RII :)

It seems this way to me as well. If they unveil C500 MK II around the next NAB, that'd make sense but 5D MK IV/C and 1 DX2 should be out much sooner than the summer of 2016, what with them already being in testers hands and all.

Of course, Canon - and most other manufacturers - should release something the next summer ... as they do each summer.

PS. Here's an interesting side point on 1D X2 - if it's ~ 25 MPX. Will 4K be in 8.3 MPX center crop or oversampled and, if oversampled, from how many pixels? Mind you, C300 MK II has an 8.8 MPX sensor. Technically speaking, a oversampled 4K could have better color sampling due to the Bayer filter effect. Sony has oversampling in A7R MK II and Panasonic in G7 (G7 has a very mild one).

yea, my curiosity is killing me. I really wanna wait to see what they are cooking up. If they hold off until the end of the year to release the 5d4 or 1dx2, they must know they are literally putting a huge amount of their customers money into other camera manufacturers bank accounts.

a7rii is looking pretty tasty.

And now Nikon Rumors are reporting that D5, to be announced late 2015/early 2016 will have 4K too. (Joe1946 has links on the News page). If so, 1D X2 should be coming around the same time frame. With the same set of features. And the same price tag.

I do not think you need to worry. Most of the professional A7 series users use EF lens + adaptor, is not likely you will need to buy any Sony made Zeiss lens.

Also after using it for a while you will see its problem. Really what kind of picture quality you are looking at.

( I just sold my A7s body last month)

I remember 1DX did not made it to consumer's hand last time round,

Since URSA have 4.6K may be they give you S35 4.6K or more? If they change to Cfast cards this will not be a problem. Re-sampling just take too much CPU power, I guess pixel to pixel straight out at a higher resolution is likely. and the C5002 will have a higher resolution to counter the URSA and Sony 4K cams
