1DC: ***Canon 1DC in 2015?***

I'm hoping it would, but this waiting is driving me nuts.

I really want the 1DC, but I cannot justify the price if a 1DXII is around the corner for a similar price with better technology and video capabilities as good/or better than the 1DC.
Then you better wait, because that's EXACTLY what will happen.

The C300mkII applies to a different market. Many people who specialize in stills and shoot video love the 1DC and it needs an upgrade...we're a long way from 2012.

Canon has to start adding 4k to their high end DSLRs or they become a joke in the industry.
They know they've gotten by with what whey admit is "slow" development in this regard - but they're not stupid.

Just look at the simple RX10 II package - from 4K to S-Log to beautiful 120p HD and useable HFR to 240p.
There's slow and then there's technological suicide and I doubt they're up for that.

The thing that is so frustrating is they can do whatever they want. They can wait around and do the research and see what the consumer wants and what the competition is doing, and will not be phased even the slightest bit. They are too big and successful.

I get it, they could have made changes already and didn't... There are obvious differences between the markets, but given a choice some would opt for a better dslr 4k option. I think canon will hold out longer and play protection... Not like we haven't seen this already... Although we are a long way from 2012, the 1dc still rocks the 4k dslr market...

Can anyone with the camera post some 4K samples here?...it will help pass the time, haha.

I believe I have watched every single video on Vimeo and YouTube.

The 4K market is "jointly shared by a committee" at the moment.

Panasonic has the low end detachable lens cameras and two bridge types. Sony has the higher priced bridge and the low end pro. There's minor price overlap with RX100IV and FZ1000 but they are different style units. A7RII is strategically placed far above GH4. JVC has an ILC pro model with LS300 and Panasonic has a fixed lens DVX 200. Nikon has no 4K models and it will appear that Canon will now take the available high end pro niche with 1D X MKII.

Notice, none of the dozen or so 4K models out there faces direct competition. From FX300 (small sensor 4K) and up, every model fits a certain niche. Coincidence? Uh ... no.

This made me think about release dates. On Wikipedia (regarding the 1DC), it says:

The Canon EOS-1D C is an 18.1-megapixel CMOS digital single-lens reflex camera (digital SLR) made by Canon in the Cinema EOS range. It shares many features with the Canon EOS 1D X. It was publicly announced on April 12, 2012, and was released in March 2013 with suggested retail price of US$15,000 (body only).

1 year!?

If they announce the 1DXII in the next month or so, does that likely mean a Spring/Summer 2016 release?

Or maybe more of a Sony approach and ship a month or two later?

Same case as 5D2 which still rock in the 1080p market

Haha do not really need the 5D3

Canon has a pretty difficult job navigating between three 4K models, each doubling the price of the predecessor - 5D MK IV ~ $4,000; 1D X MK II ~ $8,000; C300 MKII ~ $16,000. (give or take a few bucks here and there) Guessing further, I'd figure that 5D MKIV might have either a cropped or line skipping 4K and the XF codec in 8-bit 4:2:2; 1D X MKII will have a full sensor read 4K in 10-bit 4:2:2; C300 MKII will have the already announced 4444 out via HDMI 2.0a. 1D X MK II image quality will be pretty close to C300 MK II but one would need to rig up significantly for video use, making the price difference between the two models a lot tighter. 1D X MK II will also have a superior low light performance and a higher frame rate than 5D MK IV.

There may be additional features that separate the models but IMO, the above will be the gist of the major ones.

Haha then the 1DCII will be at $12K?

I better start saving up for it.

Videos like this make me want to buy this camera right now:

I've watched every 1DC video on Vimeo and a few on YouTube, and I think this is the best quality I have seen so far from this camera.

Thoughts?

I *think* 1D X MK II will be around $8,000 and that there won't be 1D C MKII because 1D X MKII will have 4K as well.

As to what sort of 4K - it'll probably be cropped off the full frame sensor and not be oversampled (but it can easily be oversampled much like A7RII and DVX200 are ... and, for the price, it ought to be) but be limited to the same codec and the same internal bitrate that's inside XC-10. It won't have the dual read-out of C300 MKII and, with that, the same dynamic range. C300 MKII promises 15 in C-Log? 1D X MKII may get to 12 or so in C-log. This and the absence of some workflow related features will keep it sufficiently below C300 MKII and yet still above A7RII and the eventual 5D MKIV.
