1DC: ***Canon 1DC in 2015?***

With all of the amazing cameras that are out there today (I have personally used the URSA, BMCC, BMPC, Pocket, 5DmkIII, GH4, A7S, NX1, FS7) - and the rapid growth of technology, would you still buy a 1DC today?

Why and why not?

I like a lot of things about it and I feel like the images are very cinematic from it. The only thing holding me back is I am convincing myself that it's already aging (and I think it's in a different aging class than ARRI or RED) and there will be better options very soon, especially from Canon (5DmkIV, etc.)

If anyone is interested in responding, I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you.

Pros
Small form factor
good battery life
4k internal
native canon glass
cheap standard media
several recording formats
Stills (Hybrid solution)
Canon color (if thats your thing)

Cons
Send camera in for firmware...
no video aids (in 2015)
no stills in c log
autofocus for video
seems like a few simple tweaks from canon would go a long way

I don't think we will see 4K Clog 422 in a 5D.... C300mkii.....

1D X2 should be announced - and perhaps even released - within 2-3 months. It ought to have everything that 1D C has, plus additional features, and for around the same price 1D C is selling for right now. If the above is correct - and I am sure 4K will be crippled somehow, as not to cannibalize C300 MK II at twice the price - it should drive the 1D C prices down even further (presuming there's going to be remaining inventory on the store shelves). Or it'll be a similar model with a superior performance for about the same investment.

PS. My wild guess is that 4K is going to be in the same format as in XC-10 - internal XF codec at 305 Mbps. No Raw. No 444. Maybe 10-bit via HDMI out.

I'll take it! I've been following the 1DX II rumors, but I find it strange how this camera would get the video capabilities. Why not just release a 1DC II?

And Mestizo - thank you. I am assuming new cameras don't have the updated firmware on them in the store as they are old stock, right?

The cost of 4K has come down to the point that a ~ $6,000-$8,000 camera should include it. And then making 1D C MKII becomes pointless at best.

From a product marketing POV, 1D X MK2 ought to have a top notch low light performance and a high frame rate. The former sort of ensures a medium (24-28 million) pixel count and the latter works fine with video as well. Add dual pixel auto-focus and all the features of the competing models and Canon can release almost a perfect hybrid while still leaving enough of a gap between it and C300 MK II.

I hope you're right...

But the C300 MK II looks very underwhelming for $16K with today's technology.

The 1DXII is probably going to be expensive, haha.

I dont see it... 1dxmkii dropping anytime soon or with 4K. Way too close to c300mkii, love to be wrong but its canon in abodll :)
Don't know if new bodies are shipping with 1.3.9 or now. Jim Martin would know....

Canon will eventually release another 4K interchangeable DSLR...it has to happen. It's just when and which model (if not a new one) is going to get it.

To me, the 5DmkIV makes the most sense because it's the filmmaker's flagship SLR for the company...like the GH4, A7S, NX1.

Considering I just bought a 1dc with ~33k shutter count + 2 batteries for $4300 shipped USD, I think it's a smashing time to buy one. It's like buying a used 1dx and paying $500 extra for the 4k/s35/C-log options. As one who shoots 50/50 video/stills, it's a no brainer used. New? Not for me.

I think you were lucky. I know they are dropping, but thats a hell of a deal. I would think $5K area

Canon has a pretty difficult job navigating between three 4K models, each doubling the price of the predecessor - 5D MK IV ~ $4,000; 1D X MK II ~ $8,000; C300 MKII ~ $16,000. (give or take a few bucks here and there) Guessing further, I'd figure that 5D MKIV might have either a cropped or line skipping 4K and the XF codec in 8-bit 4:2:2; 1D X MKII will have a full sensor read 4K in 10-bit 4:2:2; C300 MKII will have the already announced 4444 out via HDMI 2.0a. 1D X MK II image quality will be pretty close to C300 MK II but one would need to rig up significantly for video use, making the price difference between the two models a lot tighter. 1D X MK II will also have a superior low light performance and a higher frame rate than 5D MK IV.

There may be additional features that separate the models but IMO, the above will be the gist of the major ones.

Superior low light performance (if true) has me enticed.

Sounds great, but I am expecting to be disappointed. But you are making me hopeful!
If the bandied about Nikon D5 is coming around by year's end, then I don't see why 1D X MK II should lag in performance. But stranger things have happened ...

I just sold my 1D Mark IV with one battery and a charger at 2500 usd. Paying $4300 usd for two batteries and a 1Dc with a low shutter count is an amazing deal.

My friends are willing to swap my 300K SC 1DC with a new 1DX.

Just remember guys memory card and hard disk is the real killer for the 1DC, I have spend the cost of a 1DC for CF cards only

Also do not buy the sandisk 256G cards, the 1DC do not like them at all. It frequently unable to record at higher temperature or when half used.

I'm hoping it would, but this waiting is driving me nuts.

I really want the 1DC, but I cannot justify the price if a 1DXII is around the corner for a similar price with better technology and video capabilities as good/or better than the 1DC.
