Camtree FS700 Rig/Cage - the indian knockoff of the Movcam Rig

Yup, i fix it to the one on the front instead of the top. It does get loose.. but when I notice, just tighten a bit and I'm good to go. hasn't bothered me really, just a minor inconvenience.

yup, but fixed easily as i attached the mount from the bracket to the back of the odyssey at an angle to compensate. i don't really see it as it's "behind", so doesn't bother me.

What i like about this one over any others is the extremely quick tilt up or tilt down... those are basically the only positions i've needed the monitor so far. all without tightening, so its convenient for how i work.

Ah, I thought it was a VCT plate! Shows how much I know!

It seems you have to buy movcams custom plate to work with the rig then? Or is there another type?

Forgive my ignorance, I've only ever brought manfrotto style plates before!

I just have to put in a word About Solid Camera's Odyssey 7Q rig. It's the best build quality and execution of any system I have seen and held in my hands to date, and I played and digitally molested every one of them I could find at NAB. While Movcam will have their system out about now, one thing to keep in mind is it's using serrated rosette's, there is no slippage to that system if struck.

With the Solid Camera design, the arm friction mechanism is a clutch. Cream it hard in the right plane, then it should slip. That's exactly what I want it to do rather than bend or break. The wheel tension system seems to adjust easier and faster than a lever on a serrated rosette that requires a lot of disengagement throw.

The Solid Camera system is just engineered really well and the cosmetics of the finish is right on par with Arri. Because Solid Camera produces far less of a run of each product compared to the Chinese, one would expect a different price as his costs are different.

Let's just hope Camtree, ProAim, CineCity, FlyCam, FilmCity and all the other shell companies that these disreputable junk manufacturers use do not end up ripping off Carlos' really well engineered and executed designs.

Yes it does look like really good kit. Shame it's just so expensive although I realise why.

Agreed - it is the most elegant system I have seen but the rig featured above probably cost about a $1000+, which is more than I can justify

If money's no object then the Solid Camers is definitely your system...but this is an FS700 thread soooo...lol

LOVE the solid camera setup...but yeah, price out a full setup and it costs almost as much as the 7Q!

I can justify spending $3-4K+ on a tripod, because I will use it for the next 10, 15, 20 years. It's not going to change. I won't be shooting on a FS700 for more than another 4-5 yrs. So dropping $2k+ for a monitor mount that is specific to a camera model just seems like a poor investment.

In the end, we're talking about a monitor mount. You can do the same job with a $75 nova arm or hot shoe ball head. Is it as robust, secure and convenient? Hell no, but it does work.

Solid Camera's system is a Porsche. I can live with a Chevy. Need vs want I suppose.

I justified my Solid Camera purchase with the fact that I wasn't buying the FS700 top plate, but rather a general mount that could go on any camera in the future. The arm is generic and can be adapted to virtually any EVF or monitor (I bought the 15mm iris rod attachment for the EVF arm, shown in the picture on the previous page). Extra accessories like the handles (one handle has a baby pin clamp built into it) aren't device-specific. So I can use them for a ton of purposes.

Yeah, the cage and some of the battery plates are Odyssey7Q specific, but I've been renting the Odyssey out and the cage makes it easier to use and protects the SDI/power ports on the bottom. So for me it was a personal splurge but also something I felt would protect my investment while renting it out.

you can mount it either to the provided rail bracket, and have it adjustable, or you can mount just the pad directly onto the rig which allows the pad to get 1-2 cm closer.

U think u can upload a picture when it is as close as possible?

I think I'm going to invest in this rig but I wanna be sure I can balance as much weight as possible
on the shoulder and not the arms.

Hey Stefan,

Any updates on this rig? How is it holding up? I was about to purchase the Movcam, but my partner sent me to this post. How's the quality?

Sorry i totally missed this post! I recently purchased a vmount battery plate, which makes this rig almost perfect on the shoulder. The one thing i'm currently missing is some nice wooden handgrips, which are in the works :)
Here you go:

Was anyone able to compare the CamTree and Movcam side by side. Nut and bolt quality aside, there was mention of poor quality aluminum and being slightly heavier. Read through this but may of missed it.
