I am not Mitch (and I've never been employed by either the Convergent Design or Abel Cine) but my connections tell me that there may be a camera from an unnamed manufacturer at an undisclosed price point.
I know of at least one announcement that had originally been planned for NAB'16 that is now planned for IBC'16. We'll see if that happens. I also know of what was originally planned to be two models of a camera design (different styles & features for different markets) that looks to now have been somewhat combined into one. That one may or may not be at IBC, but I think it likely. I know of another that looks pretty darn certain, and one last one that's a "your guess is as good as mine," meaning that this particular manufacturer has always been rather elusive in its communication -- at least weith me.Mitch - if you're in the loop - could you please refresh us (if possible) with one of your beloved subtle hints if we can expect any major camera announcements in September?
Like you did in the beginning of this year regarding a few?
(with no details of course)

With an undisclosed delivery date?
There'll be an announced date of delivery; then an actual date of delivery (about a year later); then the firmware update delivery to eliminate any glitches present in the first series of deliveries (12-18 months later); then a V2 announcement 12-18 months later. Rinse and repeat. With an undisclosed delivery date?

PS. The bankruptcy notice announcements are expected in mid product cycle. Make your reservations early.
This is all interesting as I am thinking of buying a 4K camcorder coming off a Sony EX1r but want to buy a camera with technology that wont be immediately obsolete. I was very seriously considering the Sony FS7 for the money and picture quality...then Canon lowered their price on the C300mkII. Although it is 4 thousand over the FS7, it got me thinking of other models...and then I ran across the Sony F5 with a promo bundle that makes the cost cheaper than an FS7 (if you were to subtract the other items in the package). that camera at least has some upgrade options like the RAW recorder add-on and the option to swap out the CMOS sensor making it an F55.
So a question is why did Sony come out with this Promo Bundle? Is it headed for a new model, closeout, or just to compete with other cameras dropping prices?????
DLD, I hope you don't mind my outrageous crossposting. I just noticed your posts in the Digital Bolex topic and thought this might fit better here.
I don't think anyone will reveal any "cinema suited" cameras at Photokina. Maybe IBC, who knows. But it's already confirmed-ish that there won't be a new C100 to rival Blackmagic. And all those hybrid/stills cameras aren't exactly what I'm looking for. You have to rig them up, which is cumbersome, and all those accessories will take the cost to the level of more complete cameras. A6300 might be just 1000 dollars, but when you buy an external recorder and other stuff, the price might triple - and it still has all the quirks of "NOT cinema camera" like overheating, atrocious rolling shutter, sub par highlight roll off and what else.
I really don't think anyone will announce a camera to rival URSA Mini 4.6K in the next few months, apart from maybe Kinefinity and they are having issues with their Terra models. Certainly not Panasonic, Sony, Canon, Fuji or other big boys. RED have already shown their new line up for years to come. The "need to have BMD" will continue because they offer great value for filmmakers with shoelace budgets.
- Super 35 sensor
- 15 stops of dynamic range
- colors/motion/look that people would kill for
- all kinds of RAW
- ProRes XQ/4444/HQ/422/LT/Proxy in 4.6K, 4.6K 2.4:1, 4K 16:9, 4K DCI, Ultra HD, 3K Anamorphic, 2K 16:9, 2K DCI, HD
- DNxHR
- new upcoming OS that looks really good and is packed with features
The only real drawbacks are the magenta corners issue, the upside facing XLR inputs and the fact that you can't turn the camera off or change settings without opening the side monitor. Internal ND might be a drawback, depending on your POV.
Price? 5000 bucks for the body. About 8000 fully kitted. What about the cameras that URSA Mini 4.6K is competing with?
Panasonic Varicam LT 16 500 for the body
ARRI Alexa +70 000 for the body
Sony F65 65 000 for the body+VF
C300 MKII 12 000 for the body
RED Scarlet-W 10 000 for the body
Now, I'd love to be proven wrong, but there's no way there will be another camera like URSA Mini 4.6K this year for 5k or so.
Or maybe even another FSx camera! You never know what surprise with Sony with the rapid release of their cameras, although their professional range doesn't come out quite the same crazy hectic pass that their consumer level cameras come out at.
I'm really surprised we haven't seen another NEX-VG series camera come out recently from Sony.
I’ve been told (thanks) that the Canon EOS C100 Mark III is set to feature 4K video. The C100 Mark III is scheduled to be announced for or just before Photokina 2016 in September, and will come along with other new Canon Cinema EOS products.
The whole Canon Cinema line-up saw solid price drops in the last weeks (see here and here). This too suggests Canon may have some new stuff ready to get announced.
If Canon comes out with a C100 MKIII I think this would be the earliest update of a cinema EOS camera ever. I also feel the MKII's didn't sell nearly as well as Canon expected but that is partially because Sony undercut them hard in all things video and hybrid stills in the last 2 years. I bought a FS7 instead of a C100 MKII and couldn't afford the C300 MKII. I wanted higher frame rates more than UHD and now have both.
