C300: C70. When is this bad boy going to start shipping?

The DGO sensor doesn't seem much cleaner. There's a plenty of noise and artifacts in the LOG modes and it clips way quicker and harder than the C300 Mkii. To top it off the color is way different than any Canon camera I have ever used.

Not what I wanted to hear. Mine will come in next week and I'll test it against the C200. It's crazy to me that no one has posted a comparison since the original CVP video back in September.

I've been shooting a bit on the C70 over the weekend. The image on even the 1DX Mkii is better IMO.

To top it off the color is way different than any Canon camera I have ever used. There are very limited color profiles and tweaks that can be done to the CPs. Color has never been an issue with any of my past canon cameras. I've shot on a ton of their cameras; t2i, 60d, 5d2, 5d3, C100ii, 1DX ii, C300ii. I don't get it.

I haven't seen anything great from the C70.

What were your expectations? Did you see any video(s) that looked like cameras you're comfortable with?

Fair question. I've seen a few that looked promising. I assumed the poor examples were just user error because of the lower price tag. Lots of reviewers and owners on YouTube but a lot of them are not working professionals and they don't seem to stress test the camera.

There are things I like about the camera, but the image just isn't up to par in my opinion. I am curious if the IQ is due to the DGO sensor, not specifically the C70. I briefly owned the XC10 and even that camera had the Canon look. Tons of flaws but it had that balanced color and skin tone.

Wow, that's disappointing. I love my 1DX II except for the 30 minute time limit. I was considering the C70, but you've given me pause. I will definitely rent it first before buying, to really do a side-by-side with the 1DX II.

Cool. I look forward to seeing your results. I've only had a few days to test the camera. Please take my initial reactions with a grain of salt.

Me too, can't wait to hear how you get on.

I'm just about to take the plunge and buy either the C200 or C70.

I think the form factor of the C70 will be better for me (as OMB and travel quite a bit....or at least I used to) but if the image isn't up to it, then I'm probably better going for C200.

Do post your findings - it would be really appreciated.

For my own understanding, does anyone have a hypothesis on how the C70 could have the same sensor as the C300 MKiii and have an inferior image quality to other canon cameras - if indeed Ben's experience bears out?

They don’t call it “the Canon Cripple Hammer” for no reason. ;)

In general, engineers/corporate could be limiting it very deeply under the hood. None of us would ever know, but the camera could have less DR, slightly different color, different motion, different processing, maybe more noise reduction, etc...a number of things that could add up.

I'm not saying that's the case because I have no clue, but it's always possible.

At the end of the day, I really wouldn't expect them to charge $5K+ less money and provide the same exact image...just wouldn't make any business sense.

People have had observations like these for many years...just not seeing the same higher-end image in the lower-end systems from the same family (like also most recently with the FX6 and the FX9).

That's the difference between business people and camera people.

Camera people would easily pay $5K more.

Sure the consumers won't, but they're already transitioning to cellphones.

I didn't knew the komodo crops like hell. The C70 comes out on top.
I didn't knew that crop is most important feature than colors and DR. C70's highligts are garbage (look at the girl's hair (2:41), but Komodo is just an "action camera" and will be behind the toys from canon/sony on this forum anyway. Can't understand this logic

Those aren't roll offs. Pretty sure that shot is overexposed.

I think most would consider roll off to be how highlights are treated, whether they are clipped or not. The roll off into the clipped areas is not smooth. You can create a more gradual highlight curve, but you'll lose even more detail that way.

From what I am seeing, the C70 clips quicker and harder than other Canon cameras.
