C300: C70. When is this bad boy going to start shipping?

When it was announced didn't they say November? Now B&H says December. Has anyone heard any new information on when these are going to start shipping?

Thanks in advance everyone.

It's shipping to CVP customers in the UK already. From what I hear, Texas Media Systems and some other US-based retailers will begin shipping next week.

I would take any shipping/release dates from any manufacturer with a BIG grain of salt, right now.

Texas media is a great place to buy. I consistently get better service and faster shipping times than BH or other places. Highly recommended.

Yeah, TMS has worked hard to get me some service related issues with Canon sorted out on a couple of occasions. They are the first place I would recommend for any camera purchase.

I'm very excited about the C70, but I'm going to wait until lots of reviews come out so there are no surprises when deciding to buy it. I'm also likely going to rent it first, just to be sure. That and the XF705, to test them out side by side.

Well, the FX6 just showed up and spoiled the party!

They are quite different form factors. If the Fx6 has the A7s3 sensor, and a healthy codec, it may just win out for versatility and form. But the C70 looks like the 1DC concept reimagined, and is potentially the DSLR we've always wanted. The Fx6 is more the "box" we've always wanted.

So, it seems to come down to whether a user wants DSLR form factor or boxy camcorder form factor. The Fx6 even looking to have BNC connectors for video out! Woohoo! Meanwhile the C70 still has HDMI sticking into the operators side.

Has it been confirmed that the C70 has the same IQ as the C3003? It seems despite the DGO, it is still struggling to get past that 13stops DR look (aka high end video)

Really can't complain this year about any camera though. They all seem to have moderately good ergonomics and all seem to be maxing to the potential of CMOS technology, with good to great codec options. Been a while since the 8bit, 17Mbp/s, line skipped, barely 720p but called 1080, crapola days.

I've heard multiple sources say the C70 has the same sensor. Personally I think the highlights struggle on both of these cameras, but I am willing to give it a shot based on the feature set in such a small body.

"The C70 uses the exact same sensor as the C300 Mark III. It is a Super35 26.2 x 13.8 mm CMOS sensor that also utilizes the exact same DGO technology. The C70 has a Digic DV7 image processor. Again this is the exact same image processor that is found in the C300 Mark III." - News Shooter.

The Fx6 looks nice. I would have loved to see a proper view finder, XLR on the body, and a S35 mode.

Thanks for that. I wasn't sure if it got the same basic processors as well. That is encouraging. Seems like a great camera for ETTL, which ever since the 1DC and C-log, I have been ETTR with Canon. But seeing how clean the shadows are with DGO, while having no improvement in the highlights over the C500ii, I am inclined to alter how I work with Canon's should I shoot with their DGO cameras.

In a way, the C70 with a diopter makes for a really nice EVF.

S35 2k or HD mode would be great! Seems a waste to throw out 1080 crops. I believe the Fx9 is even getting an HD crop for broadcast people.

Agreed. I think the lighter weight of the body, in combination with the smaller RF lenses make handheld work with a diopter a decent solution. The 35mm 1.8 IS and 85mm 2 IS both look like great lenses.

Zacuto's cage looks like a nice way to build up the C70 a little bit without going too crazy.

That does seem like it is turning the C70 into something more robust for a production. Looks great! Then it can also strip down for just shooting low profile documentaries style. Kind of cool. Can't wait to try this and the Fx6 out.

I can confirm that metabones EF to RF sb fits and that the 24-105 becomes a 17-74.
However, there was a strange sound and flicker when changing aperture, might need some firware fix.

Tried to upload picture but didnt work...

does it have AF tracking in the meanwhile? The pre production models didn't.. That would be a massive downside compared to the R5 an C300iii. I use that a lot.

This looks real clean in the shadows. It does look a bit dim but overall really nice with natural looking color and saturation.

Yes, that is really clean! The C500ii already has a nice amount of DR, so if the C3003/C70 can match that via under exposure, that is a win for documentary. However, the highlights do seem to clip a little abruptly, must have been the colour profile used. Wide DR does that. Looks amazing, then just like "No", haha. This bothered me about the original C300. so gorgeous, then the highlights were just not the, because the sensor wasn't able to handle them. Canon in general has some of the best colour science, and to see them struggle in DR has alway been that weird sort of "I am only disappointed because it could have been better than anything else out there". So DGO in Canon is super exciting. While I am not expecting miracles, it may just get it to those C500ii levels, and that is kind of the baseline for me. If a camera can do what the C500ii can, I am all set, very little to grip about, and absolutely no deal breaking complaints.

This is why the C70 is looking great. I may not buy one, but if I were buying today, the C70 would be at the top of my list. I prefer the in-built mini xls to the Fx6 top handle implementation. And I am a fan of the DSLR form factor. If a camera is going to be a box, make it an ergonomic box that doesn't need clunky accessories to use, is my thinking.

The placement f the HDMI and mini xls is unfornate, but that is just where we are at these days. plus, that zacuto evf thing looks promising. so may not need to use the HDMI, and rerouting the mini XLR is actually easy. Might even mod it with solder and wires, haha.
