C300: C300mk2 real world footage and user reviews.

Yes, all internal. Loving the 10bit, such a huge difference to push the image around in post. We used 4 Lexar 128gig CFast 2.0 cards and it all worked great. Getting roughly 40 minutes of 10bit 4k per card.

Did you actually try this? My friend who has the C300 MKII says this procedure doesn't work.

I think I've tried every possible combination of AF on/off, Face Detection on/off, turning any and all focus features off and image still won't magnify when recording with my C300mk2.

I have to say that after shooting with the C300mk2 for a few days I don't feel nearly as much need to magnify as I have needed with the mk1. Focus features on the mk2 are just that good. :-) There are things I will be bugging Canon about in terms of firmware upgrades, but after using the C300mk2 the Magnify while Record (a life saver on the C300mk1) is just not at the top on my list anymore.

(And if I really need it I can always just do a 1:1 on the Graticule EVF or the Odyssey7Q. IMHO the image quality of the C300mk2 camera is good enough that the economical sweet spot for accessorizing includes the Graticule and an Odyssey7Q.)

Are you saying that this would lead to higher rates, better and bigger assignments? Or are you saying that comparably good image quality in rival cameras would cost you much more?

"Better and bigger assignments", yes. I am saying that the higher image quality of the C300mk2 over mk1 should allow the mk2 to work on productions where more accessories are typically needed.

While the C300II looks awesome in the car video, the XC10 and Inspire X3 held it's weight and added a great tool set to telling this story.

Good video. 3 cameras that take a big beating in the interweb that you guys prove are awesome tools.

yap, they just work...period

I'm super annoyed that you can't select ISO, Shutter Speed, and WB by pressing in the joystick on the C300 Mark II, and instead have to reach around to the side of the camera to select them. I realize you couldn't do this on the C300 Mark I, but you can on the C100 Mark I & Mark II which is a lot quicker way of changing settings so I assumed that would just have been added to the C300 Mark II.

Is there a menu setting that can enable this, or do we have to wait for a possible firmware update which may never happen?

Honestly, that's ridiculous! I've always HATED this about the C300. Why on earth they released this cam w/out this feature or focus magnification while shooting blows my mind. These are simple things that many users have spoken out about. They would not appear to be difficult asks for Canon to address.

The function button on the back of the C300 Mark I/Mark II allows you to quickly toggle through the main camera settings (wb -> ISO -> shutter speed); you then use the joystick to select a setting within each one.

The Mark II adds the option of pressing the function button once and then using the joystick to move to each main setting (left - right) and select within each one (up/down).

So, yeah, it's one more step than the C100 but you do not need to reach around to the side of the camera and select one of three different buttons. In practice the function button is very quick to do once you are used to it.

It still requires you to take your left hand off of the lens where you are controlling focus and zoom, so it's a big pain. I can't speak for being used to it though because I'm used to the C100 and that was one of the main advantages of the C100 over the C300 and apparently continues to be.

Wouldn't reaching around to the back of the camera be even further than reaching around to the side? You can also program any button to be the, for example, ISO button, so you could program button 11 which is closest to the lens in order to change and toggle through ISO, WB, and Shutter. I like to have 11 as a second auto-focus on/off button, but perhaps I'll sacrifice it for this other purpose. And write to Canon about their oversight.

Oh yeah, I just recalled that button 10 is now assignable and is in a nice position for pressing while your hand is on the lens. That's nice.
