C200: C200 vs C500 Image Quality

I wanted to take a look as well. I ended up with these grabs:

I focused on the girl and the skin, mostly. There is a difference in the background in my grabs that could be dialed out too, but I left it in to reflect some of the natural response.

But I think if you want to match two cameras like the C200 and C500 it would make sense to use the same settings as much as possible. In this case I'd probably to with Canon Log for both? It's a controlled environment and no challenge DR wise.

I do feel that there is a bit of light/color difference baked into these files. The differences between Canon Log2 and Canon Log accounts for a lot of the light distribution itself. But if this was a 100% controlled environment (no windows off to the sides, or computer screens glowing out of frame?) these cameras respond a bit differently in the current setup.

Looking good. What was you grading process for both of theses clips. I know the RAW C Log on the C500 has a setting of -10, did you add any sharping in post? Seems like the C500 has more detail than the C200, also the C500 seems to have more color information.

Going back and doing some reading through the C200 manual and came across this:

Perhaps if I would have used the [Cinema EOS Original] color matrix the images straight out of the cameras would have more closely matched? Will have to do some more testing....

I used the color chart to start with, but that doesn't make the images match. Like Chris says in his original post: the C500 produces a 'warm' face, but a cool background. There is no primary correction that will make both images match 1:1. I did secondary correction on the skin, but left the background and the rest (as I mention above) for reference. Both images have selective sharpness added in equal amounts.

I wouldn't judge inherent color information from my images since they have been individually corrected in hue, contrast and saturation.

That sounds reasonable. Using the same matrix and gamma would get you the best common starting point. If the plan was to do a shoot where these cameras needed to match, I'd like to find a solution that was closer to that target 'in camera' than these two pictures of the girl.

Agreed. Beyond getting a better understanding of how the cameras are processing the images, my secondary goal is to see how closely I can get their images to match with as little post correction as possible. I'm going to mess with the color matrix settings tomorrow and do some more testing. I'll post another round of files if I find anything new.
