URSA Mini introduced this morning at NAB.

GREAT Price at $2999, 4K, 180fps, EF mount- but no ND's, AF, viewfinder/shoulder mount is optional, and few controls on body.
It will be interesting how the URSA Mini compares in low light to the C100 II.

US$4,995 for the URSA Mini 4.6K EF and Viewfinder is optional. Plus no ND's and few controls on body. Typical BMD.

US$2999 for the 4K EF version of the URSA Mini...Even with the Viewfinder, thats still $1000 less than the C100 II.

not quite light, and run and gun handled like c100. And no ND... after using ND in camera, its a must. Cfast 2.0 not cheap. I have 64GB in 2 sd cards for 35$...
But great specs in paper, and great price.

I would be perfectly happy trading the in-camera ND feature for 4K high bit-rate ProRes and RAW image capture. ( you will also lose the insanely high ISO settings of the C100, but again I can live with this )

Looks like BMD is continuing to make cameras that bring in higher end features at lower price points. It def looks like it can be a great camera. But, no ND makes it a no-go for me. I'm going to stick with my C100 Mark II... and continue considering moving to the C300 within a few months.

If your all about acquisition at the highest data rates with 15stops of DR All in a slightly more expensive package that shoots in both raw or Pro res 444 in a controlled lighting environment then this package is for you.

If you need internal NDs and shoot in h264 or tethered to a ninja & shoot 442 pro res with high ISO then the C100 ii is for you.

Either way the release of the BM mini Ursa means less C100s being sold.....and possibly less F7 & C300 ( time will tell) . We live in interesting camera times.

I don't want to dump on Blackmagic, but with all of their other cameras not being quite ready for release when released, I think we'll have to wait and see on this one. It's one thing that Canon definitely has going for it...you know that the camera will not have weird bugs and quirks when you buy it. I hope that BM have it sorted with this camera but I won't count on it until it's out in the field and others have tested it out thoroughly.

the camera that really got killed from the start is the cion
In fairness, it was more of a suicide.

Its not necessarily true in the absolute terms. The switch to 4K is barely underway, with enough room for a lot of competing products.

In relative terms, obviously, a handful of cameras will grab a lion's share of the market.

I love my C100 and would not want to see the line fizzle, but surely this will really put pressure on the C100 MKII sales.

The market that buys the C100 want a real video camera (not a DSLR) but are more price conscious/sensitive (otherwise they would have bought a C300 right?). Which is the market the URSA Mini perfectly covers, and is significantly better (technically) than the C100 MKII. Not just a tad, but by what would appear to be a wide margin (except maybe low light).

(in AUD$, with no allowance for media, which is obviously considerably more for the URSA Mini, and the ND filter priced to match the total package pricing)

URSA Mini 4K EF AUD$4235
URSA Mini Shoulder Kit AUD$559
URSA Viewfinder AUD$2119
Variable ND ~AUD$280
Davinci Resolve Full (included, but otherwise AUD$1315)
Total AUD$7193

Canon EOS C100 Mk II Body AUD$7195

The C100 MKII has great features like DPAF, but is it going to be enough (assuming the URSA Mini is not actually crap)?

Do we know if the 4k sensor in the $3000 body is the same one that is currently in the URSA and the BMPC4k? If so, I'll pass. I like the skin tones on the BMCC and the Pocket, but the 4K color science leaves much to be desired in my eyes. Also I doubt that BMD will truly compete with Canon in terms of ISO any time soon. Their sensors are light hogs which isn't really a problem, Reds can be too, they just have to be treated differently.

Has there been any word on when the pre orders will start or is it based on the resellers?
B&H and, I assume this site's sponsors, are taking preorders on URSA Mini with an "expected" end of July delivery date.

The sensors are not the same to my understanding, and from what I've been hearing they are trying to get back to that old mojo of the original Bmcc with 4k. This is all I've ever wanted out of a camera. a usable, future proof Bmcc. Also, I'm not the least bit concerned with the Iso as long as the sensitivity is still there. I seen a teat done with the Bmcc and the c300 where at lower Iso the Bmcc seem to be as bright as the c300 at higher iso, and for whatever reason the Bmcc remained cleaner, maybe due to the more robust codec. But I agree with you. Give me those Bmcc skin tones or I'll pass.

I wouldn't be selling any camera until I knew firm delivery dates & had some user feedback .

I sort a suspect that after the trials tribulations of previous cameras they may have there act together on this one. Here's hoping , because on the on paper specs do look like a "game changer" for this end of the market.

Having said that I'm not sure I would be ordering a PL version as their "shim pack " looks like trouble.
