Buy P2 or SDHC Class 6 Cards?

I was looking into buying P2 cards and I found that SDHC cards are alot cheaper and I can buy more of them then the P2 cards .... Is there that much of a difference?.... I know the life span is less for the p2 but that doesn't really matter that much.

Hmm, you might want to clarify your post. Are you asking a question?

Here are a few comments. Yes SD cards are less expensive than P2. They fit in different cams, so what you buy will depend on the cam you choose or already have. Most sources would say P2 is a better and more expensive memory system. It is both more reliable and longer lasting.

I'm sorry for not clarifying , I guess I am just looking for some knowledge so I can make a good decision on what to purchase , I have minimal money and I own a HvX200a , It has a lot of good features that's why I would want a P2 card , but money is tight so I was looking into SDHC to see what the real difference would be. Do you use SDHC cards?

You can't record to a SD card with the HVX, so there really isn't a question about which one to use. You can record standard def to tape without a P2 card installed.

I have used both SD and P2. The Panna SD memory cams all work real well. Each has there own features - limitations. If you can't afford P2 memory, maybe you should consider trading down. Potentially you could trade down to a used HMC40, or HMC150 and get some memory in the bargain.

Reality: Video gear is expensive.

again, just to clarify:

You CAN'T shoot HD video to an SD card with the HVX, you HAVE TO use a P2 card(s)

the only "option" for shooting media with and hvx is that you can shoot STANDARD DEF to mini dv tape.

The SDHC cards are used to transfer scene files, not to record video.

To record video in HD, p2 cards are used.

SD video can be recorded either to tape or p2 cards. SDHC cards are not used to record video.

Do you already have a camera? On ebay there are a lot of hvx 200 deals with p2 included. In many cases its cheaper to buy a hvx200 with p2 then an hmc 150 with no memory. the hvx is a pretty popular cam sot here is a lot on the market lowering the price.

Yeah I'd even consider looking into DSLR cameras- shoot to SDHC cards- very nice imagery with good lenses and lots of support in these forums. P2 cameras are great but the media has always been quite expensive. These days there are plenty of alternatives. If you're sticking with a P2 camera you'll need P2 media. I've never seen any sort of adapter that would let you use any other sort of media to capture footage.
