Location is a cabin a smoke house and a small barn built by some guys I used to paintball with. It is on government property by a visitors center almost no one goes there especially in the spring. I am hoping to get in and shoot a few scenes and combine them with another location I have in mind. I don't have a script yet just an idea.
 
now THAT'S a location! I'd trade my local for yours, because you can really get in their and control your lighting and control the set. very nice.
 
Looks great. Very cool location and with the DSLRs you can get in there shoot your movie and nobody will be the wiser. Cant wait to see it.
 
Thanks for the nice comments guys. I'll try to do better with this one. I put up a poster with a picture of a civil war reenactment. I will be filming some footage of a reenactment this month to use in my film. The guy who runs it was very helpful and offered me great access to the different groups involved. Even though its only in the opening few scenes of the movie I think it will make for some great footage. Ok I may have let some of my cats out of the bag.

Very good guess and not too far off. Missouri was home to more battles than any other state during the Civil war. Missouri Bushwhackers, Kansas Jayhawkers or Redlegs, all great material hopefully I can still produce a surprise or two. I just found out today that both lever action repeating rifles and bolt action rifles were invented around the civil war. Spencer's, Henry's and a German made bolt action repeating rifle. Good thing they were not yet widespread or the Civil War would have been bloodier and the old west would have seen more massacres.
 
i know very little about guns, so you're saying people were using mostly muskets or gunpowder single shots, but at that time the new "bolt action" meant faster reload times and would therefore do more damage?

The Henry lever action repeating rifle was patented in 1860 and the Spencer was finished the same year. The Spencer was adopted by the United States Navy first and then by the Army after a demonstration for President Abraham Lincoln. Two regiments of the Michigan Brigade used it at Gettysburg. It fired over 20 rounds a minute. The Henry held more ammo and got off more shots per minute but was mainly used in the Western theater of the Civil War. Oliver Winchester hired Benjamin Tyler Henry who designed the weapon for the New Haven Arms Company under contract to Winchester. Most Henry's used during the Civil War were privately purchased. Jefferson Davis's bodygaurds used them. The Germans around the same time invented a bolt action repeating rifle that was first used in combat around 1864. I own an 1888 version of that rifle. Fascinating stuff and had either side equipped large numbers of troops with these rifles the war might have ended quickly. Amazing what you find out while researching material for a six minute short. I'm still struggling with wardrobe.
