Break-in...

What about security cameras? Do you have any footage of them breaking in?
Any prints?

I hope u find the guys and rip them all a new one.

Thats jus an A$$ move. Definitly Corporate Espionage

Why would they only take those vital items? I bet they didnt take the sensor cuz they couldnt find it..or jus didnt have time.

man i hope they go to jail for a long time..

... and you will know if they really knew what they were stealing if they also grabbed some of Ted's fine wines and liquors in the process.

Seriously, my thoughts are with Ted, Graeme, and all my other friends and acquaintances at Red. I do hope that the culprits will be found and, more important, the missing property recovered.

not enough broken glass on the outside for it to have been broken from the inside. It was broken from the outside, from what I can tell.

See what you started again Jarred :)

well so much for the hoax idea.

Its fake!! you can see the crop lines on the van sign... And not only that that... the shadows look all wrong. That whole scene is probably from a stage in the mojave desert :)

I'd like to say that the RED team is one fine buncha' dudes and dudettes. Despite the break in and all the other drama, they processed my zoom rez in fine order, and I appreciate all of them for their diligence.
Including all of them behind the scenes that make up the "revolution" (you to bubble gum chewer) ;)

Thanks

Maybe you would jeopardize a multi-billion dollar personal fortune for a couple million dollars- but that is probably one of the reasons he has that kind of money and you don’t? Just because lies, deceit and fraud is the first place that your mind goes doesn’t mean that is how others operate

Sorry Clint, I read it five times. It just doesn't make sense.:(

Terence,

No need to apologize, sometimes my fingers work faster than my brain and the results can be convoluted and near indecipherable. My rather overblown post was in response to some people insisting that Red was a hoax and Jim Jannard was trying to rip people off.

Section A is an extrapolation of the detractor’s conclusions of hoax to reflect on their own behavior if placed in Jim’s position. I was rhetorically postulating that the reason they assumed fraud was because they considered fraud to be the reasonable course of action under those circumstances.

Section A: Maybe you would jeopardize a multi-billion dollar personal fortune for a couple million dollars-

Section B drew a connection between the flawed logic expressed in Section A to the detractor’s failure to succeed in wealth creation to the same extent as Jim Jannard.

Section B: but that is probably one of the reasons he has that kind of money and you don’t?

Section C chastised them for automatically assuming that their belief system was the one under which everyone else worked as well.

Section C: Just because lies, deceit and fraud is the first place that your mind goes doesn’t mean that is how others operate.

I hope that cleared up more than it clouded up.

I was just going to say (after not having read 24 pages, sorry.. I have other things to do)... I'd be sure to immediately go to Sony, JVC, Panasonic, Dalsa etc and let them know what happened. Not to point fingers, but to make sure they keep an eye out for someone trying to sell goods.

If the sensor was stolen, the thief is going to try and sell it, and those would be the likely suspects to be approached. For all the saber rattling, these companies are all run by good people, and I'm sure they'd do all they could to bring a thief to justice.

Some of this finger pointing is rediculous, none of "the big guys" want to see Red stamped out, there isn't some grand conspiracy to burry Jim Jannard, and I'm sure if any of them were approached with stolen goods they'd be the first to report it to the authorities.

And my condolences go out to the RED team, getting stolen from is one of the worst feelings of injustice there is. And unfortunately speaking statistically and personally, rarely ever is the culprit brought to justice.

Dear Jim and the Red team,

I am deeply grieved to hear that someone would dare to do something like this. I am relieved to hear that no-one got hurt and I sincerely hope that people come forward if they hear anything at all without even thinking about the reward.

At the end of the day you guys are investing your time and money into a camera system for all of us thats gonna blow everything else out of the water and I'm not alone, we all thank-you for that tremendously.

The only take out I could see [if any] is that someone or some company out there has really been stirred up to do something like this because of the creative and technical acheivements you are pioneering. Be them the perpetrators or commissioners of the act - they are scared. Scared enough to do something desperate and stupid and I hope we find out who they are to condem them.

"That which doesn't kill us only makes us stronger..." - I don't know who said that originally, but here I can see, even from something as terrible as this event, that your dedicated team will probably now find a way to make it surpass your own expectations that you had BEFORE this incident. And I hope that this will then rattle the offenders cages even further.

Stay safe and kick a$*e guys !!

Kindest regards,
Richard Morgan

doesn't sound like they were industrial spies

doesn't sound like they were industrial spies

Jim said they took computer monitors. That makes me think they were ordinary thieves. A spy isn't going to get any info from a monitor. If I lived in CA, I would be checking out all the pawn shops. I would want that 100K reward. The thieves will probably throw away the "shiny" camera when they find out it doesn't work. A pawn shop probaby will not want a camera that doesn't work either. It might be easier to track down the other stuff, even if they are not one of a kind items. It will be interesting to find out who did this.

Good point. What benefit would a monitor be? Hard-disks and files makes sense.

Originally when I read this post, i thought it was a small break-in, just a guy or two, the usual grab-and-run kind of stuff. But now it looks much bigger. I just cant help but wonder that with Red being such a revolutionary thing, and so top-secret (it must have had some tight security), how no-one at Red noticed such a huge break-in in progress?

Anyway, good to hear that things are still running smoothly. I know one incident wont put the breaks on Red. They just need to remember that prevention is better than cure. :)

I have to jump in here.

It appears, based on Jim's post that the break in was related to RED and primarily intellectual property - hopefully they didn't get too much information, and it isn't the final version in any event. Still, this is disruptive technology, and a competitor could glean important information.

This type of thing isn't new. I remember when I worked for IBM during college in 1989, a group ripped the door off of the front of the building and rammed through a few doors to get a prototype next-gen PC. I doubt it helped them much, though. It was a pro job, in and out so fast that the security systems didn't help at all. This was in Boca Raton, Florida.

Industrial espionage happens, although I've never met anyone who has been involved in it.

This forum is backing Jim, which it should. But, ironically, the most paranoid and sometimes most likely to believe complex conspiracy theories are also the most creative types. Often, they don't hand around the high-level executives or board member types and realize that they are actually human, and usually extremely ethical. I've met unethical business people, but usually in an ethical corporate culture they die out.

I have extremely close friends that actually believe some of my other good friends are part of a conspiracy because they think the company is evil. That's life.

Still, let's not forget the lesson learned at HP. I would have never believed that a Chairman would authorize spying personal phone records of the press and fellow board members! So, anything is possible if someone is desperate enough.

Red is amazing, I have to say that I never looked at purchasing Oakley sunglasses in the past, but all this chat has had me looking for a pair. At least I can feel like I'm helping :)

So, I'll forgive our fellow creative types for being to ready to bash the corporate types either at Red or the competition, but I think to help pay for the cost of fixing the glass at the break-in we should purchase a few pair of cool shades...
