Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

I'm on the fence until I see footage of someone's cat, indoors, shot handheld from their desk chair. Then - and only then - will we really see what this camera can do.

Are you even remotely aware of what dangers people put themselves in to preform such tests?

Besides the Super16 sensor, tha fact that it is - again - Apple and Canon centered is a bit sobering.
To use the included Ultrascopes software you need a Thunderbolt laptop (aka MAC). The SSDs need to be MAC formated, which is a pain in the butt, if you are on a PC - meh.

And I wish they had also a Nikon mount, so I can finally dump all those adapters.

EDIT: And no HDMI means no EVF...

This is reallly cool! I said it before, someone should put balanced 1/4 jacks on DSLR's. Someone finally did. For anyone who says these are not "professional" inputs, bulls*** they aren't! Sure XLR would be nicer, but for this size of a camera...

Like many others I do hope we have a range of lens mounts. otherwise everything else sounds incredible.

I wouldn't worry too much about shallow DOF, you're still miles ahead with this camera compared to 1/3" cameras.

how do you shoot with no eye piece? It's a 2k iPhone. Comes with a sunhood for handheld, I dunno what loupe would fit that size and only option is a rigged EVF. Am I missing something?

2K iphone?!...IF there's an iphone that shoots 12 bit raw, 12 stops or so of DR on a roughly 4/3 size sensor with good audio inputs, interchangeable lens capability and comes with a 1000 dollar software package included....PLEASE tell us where to find it on the apple store page! lmao

People mention about buyers remorse for the digital bolex thing... But at least this shows that the technology is doable at this price range.

This is real news! Like the fact they waited and didn't announce it yesterday or the day before - smart marketing move. 12 bit RAW - why not! Finally someone realized there's such media as SSD. Really like the sensor size, too - sure S35 and FF are nice, but not if you're trying to shoot your first indie feature. Between S16 and 4/3 is the sweet spot for me - easy focus pulling and sufficiently shallow DOF for closeups without standing 50 meters from the talent. Let's not get overexcited either - the footage doesn't look spectacular. I don't like the colors... but hey... this is RAW! - we should be able to get the colors we're after unless they did something really bad to Bayer filters on the sensor :) Noise seems quite pronounced on some shots, but this is due to high dynamic range - what's noisy would otherwise be black. Very interesting. Congratulations, BM

I'll probably wait for a larger sensor camera. For a Raw 2k camera yes this is absolutely awesome. But for me, to shoot just for an HD finished product that I don't wanna spend alot of time C.C. I'd rather have the more filmic DOF look from a full frame. Perhaps BlackMagic will develop a larger sensor camera in the future. From looking at the footage available for this camera so far..it just doesn't look as filmic as something like the Nikon D800. IMHO
The vast, vast majority of theatrically released films has been shot in a "cropped" format much smaller than the D800's and 5Dmk3's full frame: Super 35mm is equivalent to around 1.5x crop or so (I'm not sure of the exact number, but it's only very slightly larger than APS-C format, which is 1.6x). So that vast majority of movies you watch at the cinema is shot in a format that's "not as filmic" as a D800 or 5Dmk3.

Does anyone have experience with DNG files? Can they playback in realtime on a computer, or do you have to "develop" them first?

I still think the demo footage is poorly done from a technical and an artistic standpoint.

So you'd rather see a Canon demo where they flew a professional crew to some far off island and spent tens of thousands of dollars getting juts the right shot with the right light etc than some demo that a guy shot near his house? I know which one I'd rather see.

I think the same question, rephrased, would be perhaps:

Why choose a sensor size pretty much right between 16mm and 4/3 instead of going with one of those already existing and supported formats?

It's not like you canto to a sensor shop and choose whatever you like. There's a huge amount of work involved in even getting one that's already "finished" and making that work.

Well I'm not the only one who says it, and I didn't even get to mentioning volume pots. There are alternatives that are smaller than full size XLRs but for some reason camera makers (most of them) in this price point continue to take the low road. All of which leads me to believe that the market for these cameras just doesn't give a damn (or worse doesn't know the difference) about audio.

You guys are nuts.
I think this demo footage looks great.
Colors look so much better than a dslr.

Well done John. Thanks for taking the time.
