Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

The sensor size being slightly smaller than a GH2 means the good ol' plastic fantastic LA7200 will probably be hitting $2000 or more on fleabay

Is this camera perfect? no but neither are Canon DSLRs or Panasonic DSLRs. They all have tradeoffs at the end of the day. Here we have a camera that has top of the line recording options, top connectors and audio support that blows any DSLR away. Thats not all that bad for $3,000.00. If some of you really need 4k or 60p then clearly this isn't the right camera for you. If you are ok with 2k at 24p 4:4:4 12 bit then this camera is pretty darn exciting and pretty much kills what any other camera close to this price range can offer.

As a GH1 user I really hope it adopts M43 lenses. I currently do not own any EF lenses and cringe at the idea of having to sell my M43 collection and basically start over.

The thing to keep in mind is that this is BM first stab at a product like this. If their past record is any kind of proof this will not be the last. Just look at what BM has done with capture cards. They never just made one and left it and milked it. They constantly push their capture cards to support new technology and never sit still. If the industry adopts this camera and it does well I will bet my life on BM pushing it harder and faster then just about anybody else out there.

It is clear the sensor may not be the best on the planet but keep in mind BM does not design sensors. They have to use 3rd party sensors. They look like they are trying really hard to compensate for the sensor shortcomings however and they have to be recognized for that. Being leaders in I/O technology and video data they had pretty much every piece of the puzzle except image sensor.

Considering most of the camera duds out there this is one heck of a first camera for BM. It may not be the holy grail for everybody but it will be for the masses who prefer rang, color and raw images to work their magic as opposed to just throwing more pixels at an image. 4k is not the end all of image quality. I would gladly take a raw 2k image over a so-so 4k image any day.

Wow....yeah this thing steals the show! Esp for that under 5 grand bracket waiting to be thrilled by something that is MORE than just evolutionary.....I almost thought it was going to be just an "idea" to be released in 2013/2014 when I started the thread. Amazing.

Someone posted how bad the d-bolex people must feel. I'm thinking how the Blackmagic people must have been laughing when everyone dropped about the same cash on a kickstarter ....since they were probably already aware they'll easily sell lots of these cameras ! And since it's been leaked that sony is putting more resources into their imaging division, and they're now known to be real hungry, we should see this break into the big boys in less than a year.

Now I've got to repeat my mantra a hundred times.....I promise never to be an early adopter again....I promise never to be an early adopter again....I promise....ah screw it !

I think the same question, rephrased, would be perhaps:

Why choose a sensor size pretty much right between 16mm and 4/3 instead of going with one of those already existing and supported formats?

I agree. But people don't care about that, people like specs, not images..! But having said that, so far I'm also pretty excited about this camera, but I have to see more footage, because the one available is just appalling, my granny could have done a better job...

I'm with Nuno on this one.

. . .but what do I know, I make money shooting an af100 and a GH2 and I don't live in L.A.

Geez, Cameras in the sub $5k price point sure get people hot-and-bothered.

You don't need white balance with raw file you do what you want when edit with adobe and can make a choice which balance you want that's means raw

Thanks. That is how I have always used raw files. However, the blog stated it a little bit differently.

I really believe this is a COMPLETE and total game changer.....The software alone costs 1000 bucks, making the camera essentially 2 grand. I'm just astounded, the interface looks beautiful too....nice clean menus on a huge screen. Just ....WOW.

It's going to be a great camera for those of us who realise that the "film look" is not just about ultra shallow DOF and the preprocessed DSLR look.

I still think the demo footage is poorly done from a technical and an artistic standpoint.

how do you shoot with no eye piece? It's a 2k iPhone. Comes with a sunhood for handheld, I dunno what loupe would fit that size and only option is a rigged EVF. Am I missing something?

looks interesting but for me, over 90% of our production is for Internet and Blueray... so GH2 is still enought, we're also using HMC150, so the main question is: what i need to do good job? i need RAW? maybe, i need 240fps, maybe - for me its enought for now GH2 Hacked and repace HMC150 to AC160, and of course better buy gears than new cameras... superhiper camera without good operator and gears (slide, dolly, jib) - is worst than "normal" camera with good gear and operator ;)

I'll be waiting till a really good test of this camera will be done... ;)

The guy said those were his "home movies". But yes I would have only presented the
best footage first from a camera intro like this. That being said, I will look
forward to seeing more footage from this camera.
What they REALLY need to work on is making Resolve easier to use!!!

this is not demo ...
its just this guy home videos done with beta version ...
he sad that he guessed exposure because there was not option in camera yet....
