C100: Big changes coming to 5DMK4 - Thoughts?

Yeah, that's a huge disappointment... I feel a bit stupid for taking those rumours seriously to begin with

I admit to being a bit bummed as well. Underwhelming. Not going to pick one up now. So it goes.

I'm actually gonna do a major rethink on the fact that I allow rumor sites into my consciousness at all. A bit embarrassed I actually took some of this rumor seriously. It's really not a productive use my time.

Do you know what is gonna be native iso for c-log in mk4 ?? Is it gonna be the same like in c100 line , 850iso ??
What about wide DR ?
I am always using wide dr instead of c-log . I was always thinking that c-log is too much ( flat) for 8bit .
Did you find better roll off highlights in c-log ?

I agree...

I always use Clog in my C300. Not all 8 bit implementation is same ie 8 bit varies across manufacturers. 8 bit is not an issue in C300/cinema series. It works for me. Hoping out of hope that Canon brings CLog to 1DXII as well.

The problem is Canon is still selling 1DC at some 1000 usd lower than 1DXII. 1DXII doesn't have clog. That is now the only thing that 1DC has which 1DXII doesn't have.

That's a good point...the 1DC is most likely going to be the thorn in the side for the 1DX's C-Log debut.

Yey c300 has much better codec , in c100 line is poor AVCHD . I am wonder how 5dmk4 is gonna perform with c-log .

Very strange canon move . 1dx2 should get c-log as well , it is gonna be unfair if canon leave 1dx2 user without c-log .

I spoke with people at canon about this and the 1DX2, he said they are "clearing" out the 1DC trying to sell and get rid of all old stock. They know that the 1DC was amazing, but the 1DX2 is better. In the end though, their goal is to have the 5D and 1D series with C-LOG to backup to their C services cameras.

Ya, but that'd be 5D MKV and 1D X MKIII. Canon will take their sweet time to deliver the 2014 gear in 2019.

I think Canon released the XC-10 and 15 cams for potential B or C-cams to the C300 MKII etc as they have proper C-log variations and 4K.

I can understand why they would withhold the c-log profile in the 1DX2 as it would totally cannibalise the C-series.

The 1DC has the "C" series badge and the price tag is still pretty high for a 4 year old cam and Canon don't seem to care about rushing to market like Sony does, I had the FS7 for 2 years but I still preferred what I saw come out of the C300mkii and C500 and I actually really like the ergonomics and the Canon eco-system with lenses also.

I suspect the release of C-log on the 5DMK4 is a bit of a get out of jail card to boost sales, and it will for a bit, until Sony release an A9s or possibly an A7s3 and so the cycle continues every year around NAB time etc:evil:

I purchased the C300 MKII and have been very satisfied with it but i always struggled to decide on a b-cam but I would probably have gone for the 5D4 for gimbal shots or b-cam etc.

Unfortunately cameras are so cheap these days that I'm finding it's better to rent.

One shoot could be an Alexa mini or Red and when the budget is a bit tighter I can hire a C300 MKII / FS7 or Ursa Pro for whatever situation comes up instead of trying to maximise all projects with the C300MKII because I own it, hence why I'm now selling my C300MKII.

I think if they can add C-LOG 2 and 3 to the 5DMK4 it will be the best b-cam for the C300MKII as there's not much else out there with 4K and interchangeable lenses apart from the old 1DC

5dmk4 , crop factor 4k is killing to use it as B camera . There is no speed buster for canon :)

Hi thanks , yes I checked it , I also find out that aps-c lens is working in crop , tokina 16-20 , sigma 18-35 :) That is great .
At now I am wonder how much space takes 1h of 4k ?
What about 1080p , can I use crop as well (super35mm) . Actually my only full frame lens is zeiss100 and canon 70-200 . It could be great to have option full frame and crop mode . I think sony(E) full frame camera have something like this , what about with 5dmk4 ?
I have c100mk1,c100mk2 and I need 3rd camera 5dmk4 with c-log seems to be great . I remember that 5dmk3 was very soft , lack of details . What about 5dmk4 , is it keep as good as c100mk2 when it comes to details ????
I understand 5dmk4 is lack of
1 nd filters
2 no weveform
3 no xlr
Is there any histogram in video mode ?

Yes, that's one of the great things about the crop...being able to use some amazing APS-C lenses out there like the Sigma ART zooms.

The 4K detail destroys C100s (but HD is definitely worse) and gives a C300 Mark II a run for its money. (The 5D is maybe even sharper, but the C300 is more pleasant to look at.)

No various crops on the camera. Only HD in full-frame and 4K cropped.

~ 200 GB (@500 Mbps).

PS. FWIW, the best image from the recent slew of the 4K hybrids that I saw came out of Olympus OMD 1 MKII (the Ming Thein on Vimeo).
