I've been using a Century X.7 wide adapter with a 77mm thread for years on many different formats both film and digital video. I got a 58-77 adapter to try it on the Canon 18-55mm and it works well. Here is a current model I found at B&H with a larger thread of 105mm. It's worth using larger wide adapters because they will work on more future lenses you invest in. For example I can mount my 77mm on the Canon 17-40mm f4L with 77mm thread, but not on the 16-35mm with 82mm thread. When investing in a wide adapter consider what lenses you want to use it on in the future.

Make sense. Thanks for the advice...

Here are some sample shots with the 18-55 and the X.7 Century 77mm thread I just shot. The first shot is the 18-55 @ 18mm straight. The 2nd shot is plus the X.7 Century Wide adapter.
There is barrel distortion. x.7 calculates to 12.6mm view so you would expect some barrel distortion, but the distortion on the soccer ball is minimal.
There is a much bigger problem I discovered with the 11-16 Tokina.
Below are some tests from the Tokina 11-16mm @11mm the distortion on the shape of the head is drastic from center frame to the side.
(Sorry I keep posting the same 11-16 tests. I don't own the lens and these are the only shots I have)

So you can see each wide lens performs differently and you should try to test them for yourself. The Canon 10-22mm is an amazing lens with almost no barrel distortion at 10mm, but unfortunately a but slow and variable aperture. If I can get my hands on one I'll post some shots

Here is another interesting .6X I spotted at B&H around the same price range as the 105 Century. I noticed the Century is a dedicated mount and not a threaded mount so it's not as universal. I sent an email the Schneider Optics and asked if they still make the Series that I have. I will post their response when I get one.

I have no personal experience with this brand but it's worth looking into. If they are any good it looks like a possibility for the price. The 82mm and 72mm both weigh 19.4 oz or 550g which is a big piece of glass. Maybe too heavy for the 18-55.

You may want to check this site for reference or to ask Century directly about lenses.

I see the distortion on those tokina shots, but you have to remember that putting faces in the edge of the frame with any wide lens will give you results like that. look how straight the walls are in the same shot a little from the edge of the frame. Looks much better than the wide angle adapter test. Anyway, the tokina does have some weaknesses, no doubt. Did you see this article on how to use wide angle lenses? Pretty cool.

I was just surprised to see the distortion in the head shot. I didn't expect it. The shots with the .7x Century on the 18-55 has predicted distortion on the straight lines but none to speak of on the shape of the soccer ball. Personally I would rather see normal shape heads since that it what I have in most of my shots. I'll try to avoid vertical pillars on the sides of the frame in the future but this is a good example of the worst it can get, just like the squashed heads in the Tokina test.
This is just a good lesson of 2 kinds of distortion to be aware of when investing in a wide lens. The Canon 10-22mm should be interesting to test as well.
